Hector held back a smirk and raised his hands, tilting his head with an exaggerated pout at Mikâs less than stellar greeting, but didnât comment. It was probably best to not push him too much, but ⊠because he couldnât be anyone but himself his response may have lacked the remorse needed to apologize for years of turning town Mikaelâs invitations to come with him to his hometown.Â
âWell I certainly wasnât expecting an inquisition. Since when are you so curious?â Hector asked as he stepped around Mik and strolled down the hallway and settled in a chair at the counter. âYou personally donât need to worry about anything. Iâm not here on business.â There wasnât some shady shit head following him to this quaint little town or anything like that. And for once he didnât have to lie about it. He was however selective with his words with Mik and practically everyone else he knew. âBelieve it or not, I do have friends outside of you and criminals and one of my friends asked me for a favor.â
Hector raised his eyebrows, watching Mik expectantly over the rim of his glass. âEverytime- what? You canât possibly be trying to place all the blame on me.
âAnd people thought I was the dramatic one out of the two of us. Â I hardly would consider a few questions an inquisition.â Mikael glossed over the other manâs question as they walked into the kitchen. Â Shaking his head slightly he scoffed at Hectorâs words. Â I always worry when it comes to you. Â He thought to himself. Â âFairly sure I have heard those words before. Â If you are not here on business then why are you here? Â People just do not come down from New York to stay here in Asteria for no reason.â Â After pouring the glass of tea, he placed it in front of Hector and while holding his own glass as he leaned against the counter. Â âOh? Â That is what I am, a friend?â Â A quizzical brow sprung as he mentioned a favor for a friend. Â âWhat kind of favor?â
Mikael tore his eyes from Hector for a moment as his lips tightened in frustration. Taking a deep breath, he shook his head. âOf course not, I was stupid enough to think you would change.â Â Although he tried to hide it, the hurt in his voice was present. Â Despite leaving Hector, his feelings never left the man. âYou never did answer my question. Why did you come here to see me?â
âAnd I hardly think people even know to compare the two of us,â Hector rolled his eyes and privately disagreed. Mikael was clearly the more dramatic one. Hector might use fancy words to distract and stall but of the two of them Mik was the one who was prone to more dramatics.
Hector scowled and rolled his eyes. Of everything he said Mikael focused on one word and ignored the rest. It was no wonder he repeated himself so much. âItâs a coincidence that my friend -- acquaintance really, is also a resident here. She needed my help so I decided to kill two birds with one stone-- help her while she moves on from a bad relationship and visit you, see your hometown like youâd been asking me for years. Besides, New York was getting repetitive.â Hector shrugged and took another sip of his tea, finally registering just how sweet the tea was pulling away and looking down at the drink with a confused look and trying to decide of he liked it or not.Â
He frowned, expression softening at the hurt in Mikâs voice. âHey ... Iâm here arenât I?â Clearly capable of change even if it was several years late. âI live, temporarily, a couple blocks down the street. I saw your car and figured Iâd ask you if youâd like to get something to eat with me. I donât have any food in my fridge and obviously donât know my way around town yet. Wonât you be a good host and show me around?â
