The only reason I’m still on Facebook is to see posts like this
@friend-crow
I’d bring that crow so many goddamn snacks.
Making a master list for all the great Hopepunk Solarpunk posts ive seen (IT UPDATES!!)
you don’t have to read all of this! you can scroll and find ones that interest you, id bold the ones that i want you to see but then all the links would be bold lmao
giving this to my future self
Reminder that the idea that the gods/spirits will punish you for not believing in them, and the notion that believing in gods/spirits/magic/etc. make you a better person than those who don't, is one of the less savory aspects of cultural Christianity.
And is an idea that we need to leave behind, frankly.
Becoming sustainable is a journey that takes a long time. You can not and will not change your lifestyle to fully sustainable in a month. Changing your entire lifestyle in a way that directly clashes with how society is currently functioning (consumerism/capitalism) is not as easy as the tiktokers doing partnerships with bamboo toothbrushes make you believe.
Start small. Repurpose things you already have, even if they aren’t recyclable. Scrape the last of your moisturizer into a tub if it won’t come out the bottle any more. Use the cut open bottle as a pin holder. Use old dvd cases as letter storage, for arts and crafts, to protect your post. Donate things you can’t reuse to your local charity shops or shelters.
You’re also inherently going to have to learn new skills. Learning to stitch clothing to repair clothes, and learning how to sew to re-use clothes that can’t be salvaged. Learning some basic carpentry and upholstery skills for furniture, learning how to compost properly, learning to cook in unusual ways like canning and bulk cooking, gardening and farming. You’ll need to learn how to navigate shopping sustainably by researching the brands you consume, the shops you buy at, the local economy.
There’s also the emotional toll of it. Learning new skills and leading a sustainable lifestyle will be very rewarding and fulfilling, but the journey there will be difficult. Researching it all will likely depress you, you’ll come across how shit nestle is, how deep-rooted consumerism is, how it impacts the ocean and humanity. You’ll find there’s almost nothing, no brand, no item, no store that hasn’t been touched by consumerism and problematic practices, and it will get absolutely exhausting. You’ll find YouTubers and bloggers who have been doing this longer than you and finally help you navigate everything, and then they’re a terf. It’s going to be a challenging journey.
You will also realize becoming fully 100% sustainable is impossible to you and gated to rich people. You will need to accept this. Not everyone has access to local shops that provide sustainable items, and online shipping itself is usually not eco-friendly. Having a pet might be a roadblock, unless you can build your own house it’s probably not built sustainably, if you live with family or roommates they might dampen your lifestyle. You’ll learn that being sustainable isn’t going the whole solution to saving the planet. You cannot strive for perfection here, you can only make an effort.
But making the effort is the point. Living sustainably makes you part of a positive cycle that supports local businesses, promotes a healthier and more fulfilling life, helps your local ecosystem and community. That makes the effort worth it.
It also serves as an example for others. You’d be surprised at how many other people yearn for sustainability in their lives as well.

I know it's been talked about before but I still don't think it's been emphasized how *fucked* today's internet experience is for children. I didn't know what the word "discourse" was when I was 8, or 10, or even 13. I was too busy playing the nigh-limitless amount of flash games out there on the internet and making sure my neopets were fed. Like I cannot stress enough that if I had free time on the computer, 9 times out of 10 I could go and play a jaunty little game someone had whipped up and put out there for no other reason than that creating games was awesome and easy to do. Or go to some page that existed just to collect memes; you see back then there were more than 4 sites, and you didn't need accounts to visit them. I didn't get targeted ads. I wasn't exposed to any sort of political ideology. I spent a lot of time on the computer but no one site monopolized my time or tried to fucking manipulate me into using it more. The internet was for more than one thing back then, and honestly I don't think enough people realize how much has been stolen from us.
I understand the feelings of despair, but the rest of the internet is still very much out there. There’s a growing and dedicated movement to take it back from corporations. I’ll link a few of the neat little websites I’ve found on Neocities and in various other places. https://sadgrl.online/ - A good jumping-off point that has html guides, links to webrings, and other cool stuff.
https://deathgenerator.com - You ever wanted to make one of those funny fake video game screenshots, but you don’t have the patience to do the image editing? Well, here you go!
https://signal.vercel.app/edit - A neat little free online midi editor! You can upload midi files or compose your own!
https://dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/ - A cool falling-sand-type game. The website it’s hosted on is full of other cool games, most of which are free and don’t require flash (rip flash)
https://webshark.neocities.org/gamepages - Speaking of games that don’t require flash, here’s a whole page of ‘em. Most are fairly simple, but they’re still a lot of fun.
https://ocremix.org/ and https://vgmusic.com/ - Two websites that have been around since almost forever. OCRemix is home to video game music remixes, and VGMusic has a MASSIVE library of video game midis! I used to spend a lot of time on VGMusic in particular when I was a kid.
https://cooltext.com/ - You can make cool-looking text! They also have free fonts you can download.
And this is by no means a comprehensive list, no. This is just a sampling. There’s so much out there just waiting to be discovered-- you just have to go looking for it! (And remember, kids, be careful out there-- computer viruses and malware are still very much a threat, so I encourage you to get uBlock Origin or NoScript-- or both-- for your web browser before you start web surfing! Also never give out any personal information! And for the love of all that is good, and for your own safety, please stay away from the porn sites if you’re under the age of 18.)
Have fun, stay safe, and
HEY KIDS, YOU WANT MORE GAMES? ITCH.IO HAS PLENTY OF WEIRD GAMES YOU CAN PLAY ON YOUR BROWSER OR DOWNLOAD ON YOU COMPUTER. Just remember to always check tags and description to avoid finding things that are for a much older audience.
There's also special browsers like NuMuKi that you can still play old flash games on!!!
Gonna drop this masterpost of links relating to this topic of taking back the internet and also fun things to do!

ideas for solarpunk home design?
(home design anon) oh and interior design/decorating too?
First of all, sorry it took so long to get to this. I was trying to find some resources for you because this is just not something I (Mod J) have ever dealt with before. Interior design/decorating is not a skillset that I have just in general, and home design is not something I've had a need or opportunity to look into yet. (I'm assuming by "home design" you mean building or modifying a home - if you mean something else, please feel free to send another ask!)
Here are a few resources that I've personally saved for future reference:
Earth Architecture. A really cool site about using mud/dirt as a building material, including a lot of resources about African and Middle Eastern architecture and how they designed to keep buildings cool in hot temperatures.
The permies.com Natural Building forum. Permies has a tendency to go into the "plastic gives you cancer just by existing near you" type of attitude that becomes almost cult-like at times, but if you're able and willing to sort through that, they also have a lot of good information. It's also a great place to get answers if you have a specific building-related question.
StrawBale.com. This site is mostly for selling building plans for straw bale houses, but they do have some good resources for building design in general. My personal favorite is the images explaining how a house is designed to get more sun in winter and less sun in summer, e.g. this image:
Unfortunately, that's the extent of what I have as far as information and resources. Followers, please feel free to chime in if you have more!
