Erik stares at the speaker. It’s a general statement, made to the crowd of people – which is foolish in and of itself, God only knows what sort of people might respond. Who would ask a group of random strangers to go to a party?
No one appears to be responding, at least, in this immediate area. Perhaps they think it is a joke? Erik finds himself believing that part of it might be. There’s something utterly ridiculous about an open invite for one that just whispers prank. But at the same time, it could simply be that everyone feels as awkward about it as he does.
Still no one makes a move. Erik runs through his options quickly, thinking for any glaring pros or cons. The only one that really sticks out is the prospect of Darcy finding out about this… scenario, something that she probably would, somehow. (Perhaps it had something to do with her genuine friends?) If it is a prank and he gets mocked, he will never forget it. If it’s real and he does nothing, he will never be allowed to forget it. No matter what happens, Darcy will never let Erik live down a mistake. He doesn’t always appreciate this.
Perhaps having a more normal acquaintance would be a good idea.
Erik checks his hood to make sure it is covering his deformity properly. At least with costumes he can keep that part a secret as long as it has to be, which might be never.
He reaches forward and taps the girl’s shoulder. “I believe I would be interested,” he says, coughing to clear his throat.
Admittedly Pauline has expected people her age to reply to her invitation, but alas she hadn´t specifically stated as to whom her invitation was extended and if she showed up with an older guy at her father´s party he´d probably be at least a tiny bit annoyed and since that´s what she´s aiming for she can´t really complain.
He looks...mysterious might be the right word for it, she can´t fully see his face and they´ll definitely have to work on the attire, but she feels as if he´d scrub up nicely once given a suit.
“Well. We´d have to get you a costume. Or at least a suit,” She then tells him. “Pauline Kaufman. You might have heard about my father, then you´ll know this is a rather fancy gathering. So the costume has to be fitting for that. I´m always here to rub him the wrong way, but I do want to do it looking great,” She smiles.
“Maybe we can even go for some masks. They always have a rather mysterious effect and attract people´s attention.” She extends her hand. “Nice to meet you, if you´re really set on coming along we should best go look for costumes now, what do you think?”
