Supermarket/Grocery Shopping: This has always been the cutest for me. It could be because they’re going to cook dinner together for each other or a late night run to buy junk food. My favorite would have to be going to Target during Christmastime and dressing up/buying all of the peppermint flavored food.
Playing video games: I think certain things are only boring if you make them so. My favorite one for this is bowling or something of the sort, adding to the competition. Imagine all the name calling and maybe even at the end one of them picks up the other one and sets them down on the couch just so they can win.
Watching the stars: This sounds corny and like a classic, right? I’ve never seen it be used in a roleplay, though. What I suggest is that maybe if your characters live in a place where they can’t see the stars, one of them take a napkin or toilet paper roll and cuts out star like shapes on one end and gives it to the other as a present so that now they can see the stars.
Concert: I would die in a heartbeat if I ever got to para this. Seeing Fall Out Boy or Miley Cyrus or Arctic Monkeys or any band that both your characters like. But also add to the build up! Going out to dinner before? Running around downtown afterwards because you’re so charged up on energy?
The roof of a building: Going into the city and finding a building that allows you onto the roof. You could have a picnic there and watch the sun set or bring a guitar and play your lady/man a few fine tunes surrounded by all the city lights.
Karaoke night: This also seems particularly classic but again, I have not seen it been done. One of them has to be a bad singer, that’s the fun in it. Singing off key to maybe a really sweet song but you could also be singing boots with the fur for all anyone cares.
Poetry slam: I love this idea in a cute little coffee shop. Actually, it puts a brand new twist on the whole coffee shop date. One of them could be reading a poem about the other one. What if they were friends and that’s how one of them confessed their affection for the other? So much potential.
Going to see planes land/take off: I never truly understood why this was even an event that took place for people. But the romantic in me calls upon it because it would be pretty sad to see everyone leaving and you’re just stuck there. Or maybe one of them is arriving on a plane and they can do the cliche running into arms thing. Or, just do the cliche running for fun.
Getting drunk: During the night while the whole town is sleeping and maybe there’s a fountain and they’re sitting there in front of a church just kind of enjoying each other’s company because they’re in love and they’re passing around a bottle of cheap wine.
But one thing I’ve learned to keep in mind: Anywhere can make a good place for a date if you try hard enough. Perhaps drinking tea and telling each other folk tales in one’s home by the fire place. Or maybe hanging out in a tree house recounting stories of their childhood. Getting high and going to a club then walking home and dancing in the middle of the street because everything is just so wonderful. Cooking spaghetti together at home while listening to old Christmas records. Sometimes even just going to eat tomato soup is enough to satisfy the soul.
