I find it very cynical how the Dalton brothers are portrayed in the film Daisy Town (1971)—serious, perfectly poised, and shown training (while Luke plays chess with Jolly Jumper)—only to be defeated by Luke himself cheating. It has always been a slap in the face to the characters' dignity.

And I find really funny that the duel scene took inspo from the spaghetti westerns🤭🥰

Hello amazing folks!!! A new artwork inspired by my famous dream and a fanart made in 2021!

Anyway, I made a consideration, hear me out:

The Daltons, in the Lucky Luke's universe, are practically the most feared outlaws in the entire Wild West, and the Far West, during this exact historical period, is one of the most dangerous and ruthless settings in history. The brothers terrify everyone—even animals (like in Lucky Luke’s Fiancee) and the bravest of men (as stated in Daisy Town, 1971). They rob banks, trains, and stagecoaches; they steal livestock, supplies, weapons, money, jewelry—you name it.

I’ve always found the brothers endearing, and I’ve always rooted for them, including all their dynamics, frustrations, insecurities, and flaws. So, if throughout my childhood and adolescence I always found comfort, joy and amusement in the most feared men in the most dangerous place on Earth during one of the toughest times in history... then the rest of the world doesn't frighten me anymore.

When I discovered that Lucky Luke and Asterix are connected my heart exploded.

My favorite movie will always by the twelve tasks of Asterix but also asterix and Cleopatra!!!! Those movies are absolute peak!

Non so se sono solo io, ma quando in un episodio c'è un criminale a caso contro Lucky Luke faccio il tifo per Lucky Luke, ma quando è uno di quegli episodi Lucky Luke vs i Dalton allora mi schiero dalla parte dei Dalton senza esitazione.

Anche a me capita di tifare solo per i Dalton contro Luke, perché lui è letteralmente la perfezione contro degli esseri umani che fanno di tutto pur di batterlo e che si sbattono ogni volta nel rapinare banche, treni e diligenze pur di terrorizzare il west, farsi valere come uomini, criminali e "Dalton" ed anche come persone.

Per i Dalton si fa il tifo perché conosciamo le loro dinamiche, la loro psicologia, la loro famiglia e la loro eterna frustrazione, insoddisfazione e desiderio di farsi rispettare anche dalla loro stessa madre (questo vale soprattutto per Joe). I fratelli ad un certo punto fanno quasi tenerezza perché i loro fallimenti sono semplicemente logoranti e quasi "crudeli" nei loro confronti, i Dalton hanno scelto di essere forti: resilienti e resistenti contro un mondo che li odia e che li vorrebbe linciare.

Si tifa di più per i fratelli Dalton perché sono personaggi a tutto tondo ricorrenti e , personalmente, ritengo che i loro continui sforzi li rendano vicini ad antieroi romantici (COSA CHE PERÒ NON SONO IN QUANTO SONO NEMICI DEL PROTAGONISTA E FANNO COSE OGGETTIVAMENTE SBAGLIATE).

Inoltre, penso che i fratelli siano anche soli: mentre Luke fondamentalmente non ha nemici (non eleva mai i fratelli a tali), i Dalton non hanno nessun alleato o amico a parte la loro madre, anche per questo mi si stringe il cuore ogni volta che penso a loro.

A me dà anche sinceramente fastidio quando sono presi da tutti a pesci in faccia, ad una certa non fa nemmeno più ridere.

I also happen to root only for the Daltons against Luke, because he is literally perfection against human beings who do everything they can just to beat him, and who toil every single time robbing banks, trains, and stagecoaches just to terrorize the West, to prove their worth as men, criminals, and 'Daltons,' and also as people.

We root for the Daltons because we know their dynamics, their psychology, their family, and their eternal frustration, dissatisfaction, and desire to be respected even by their own mother (this goes especially for Joe). At a certain point, the brothers almost move you to pity because their failures are simply exhausting and nearly 'cruel' toward them; the Daltons chose to be strong: resilient and resistant against a world that hates them and would like to lynch them.

People root more for the Dalton brothers because they are well-rounded, recurring characters and, personally, I believe that their continuous efforts make them close to romantic antiheroes (WHICH, HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT, AS THEY ARE THE PROTAGONIST'S ENEMIES AND DO OBJECTIVELY WRONG THINGS).

Furthermore, I think the brothers are also lonely: while Luke basically has no enemies (he never elevates the brothers to that status), the Daltons have no allies or friends besides their mother; this is also why my heart aches every time I think about them.

It also genuinely bothers me when they are constantly treated like garbage by everyone; at a certain point, it isn't even funny anymore.

One million dollar question:

It may sound absolutely stupid and absurd, but what if the Daltons became more ridiculous and less dangerous because the authors didn't want girls to romanticize them? Y'all I know it sounds ridiculous but everything is possible. I also wonder if there had been Dalton fangirls In the decades before the 2000s that loved the brothers.

Chat this post is going to be super long but extremely important for me, I please you for your kind attention if you can:

I have an incredible bond with the Lucky Luke comics since I was four or five years old, when I have read Dalton city for the first time. I didn't know that those four men on the comic book cover was them, when I saw those four men with a big potato nose (that I wanna kiss sm) I thought "omg what did they do!?" (Without knowing they were criminals haha); other characters I remember from that time was Rantanplan and Luke. Without knowing it, in those years came out the animated spin off by xilam(in 2009-10) came out.

2013-14: in Italy finally arrives the spin off, I didn't appreciate the prison in general when I was a kid, but when I saw the Daltons I fell for them. That series was just PERFECT. I fell in love with the brothers dynamics, their gags, their ideas, their plans, their expressions and insanely creativity with their escapes. There's an incredible art in them. It became my comfort series.

In that period I also saw all the Lucky Luke adaptations and animated movies, my favorite became Daisy Town for all the reasons I explained few posts before this. In that movie the brothers were the best part, if we have to be brutally honest.

2017: I rewatch Go West (2007) and my special interest in the brothers returns, I decided to deepen even more my knowledge in the franchise and the more I discover about them, the more I understand how huge is this universe; I also discover the Achdé's style and it completely takes my heart. In that period I also discover the truth about the Daltons origins, about the Dalton Gang defeated in Coffeyville the October 5th 1892. When I discovered that I was shocked but also fascinated.

I made that research because I was scared that they could die in any adventures, the fact that Goscinny created them after the death of the brothers made me realize they will never die, and this genuinely made me cry, as I was too afraid that they would have died in a horrible way🥹🥹🥹🥹.

At 12 years old I discover to be autistic and I discover more about my special interests; a horrible thought comes to my mind: "what if my interest for them might disappear?", and I almost got an "existential crisis" about it. This depression ended when I have read a comic again about an Averell's gag and I smiled again. From that moment on they became my artistic muses and my most important special interest, I didn't want them to "disappear" as when I fell for them I became the happiest person on the planet, happier than 8B people.

16 years old: I watch me movie "my name is nobody", with Terence hill and Henry Fonda, I listen to the ost "the wild horde" and I fall for it again, imagining "omg this ost would be perfect for the Dalton brothers!"; well, in that same year I saw the 1991 Terence Hill's lucky luke movie in daisy town, and in the Daltons arrival scene...THERE WAS THAT OST!!!! MY MENTAL MOVIE WAS ALREADY CANON AND I DIDN'T KNOW IT!!!! This gave me a a boost of adrenaline that I cannot explain with words. Lord, that ost is simply perfect for them.

20 years old: after an exhausting and frustrating uni year I decide to paint Frederic Remington's "a dash for the timber", I adore that artist a lot, but I didn't know it was mentioned in a Lucky Luke adventure (l'artiste peintre). I also made a painting portraying the four horsemen of Apocalypse on a red and black sky.

24 years old: in 2029 will come out the animated movie "Lucky Luke welcome to Fanga Town". I have so many hopes for this movie, I am 1000% sure there will be my handsome men too.

Every four years in my life happens something correlated to the Daltons and Lucky Luke that deeply influences me and my artistic formation. The number 4 is also my lucky number soooo...

I am the happiest person alive, this is pure magic, I hope it's never gonna end. Whatever is going to happen in my life, they will be there with me.💖💖💖💖

Vent post:

Back in 2019, at 14 years old, i dreamt about the Daltons escaping from prison during a tremendous thunderstorm, causing a fire that would have been ended with the rain. After the bloody rain, it would have appeared a red and golden full moon in a starless pitch black sky. The four bandits, dressed in white with covered faces, saw a little house at the bottom of a hill and decided to reach it; I could feel the Daltons theme from the animated movie Daisy Town (1971), they entered the house and I woke up.

The Daltons wore their classical outlaw clothes with munitions, weapons and wide capes, their hands and arms were covered in blood, stinky and dirty bandages; their eyes had a red sclera and the iris were golden like the coyotes eyes in the darkness, I could see their vitreous eyes in the dreams had during the darkest moments of my life, I felt so much pity for them.

You can see four digital fanarts and an oil painting portraying them as the four horsemen of apocalypse, that painting is so personal: I have put so much of myself Into it and it's oddly comforting to me.
