Remus would like to think that he didn’t make a habit of bothering people when they were just minding their own business. He was himself a man that would rather not be bothered and have social situations thrust upon him when he would rather be left alone. But there were some things more important than that. Like the fact that this young woman in the park was sitting there reading an Umberto Eco book in the original Italian. And that was fascinating. Remus was a bit of a bibliophile himself, always had been. When he’d been too sickly and too dangerous to go play with the other children, he’d sat at home with his mother, reading instead. And seeing someone actually read one of those books he remembered, and in Italian no less left him feeling a strange sad sort of deja vu. "Oh no I’m sorry,“ Remus said when he realized he’d been staring hard enough to make himself known. "I’m just positive I’ve never seen another person read Umberto Eco, and definitely not in Italian.” He gave her a bashful smile. “I couldn’t read the Italian myself, but I did very much like that novel. Preferred The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana, but my mother was partial to that one.”
At his words, Helena couldn’t help but grin brightly. “You know Umberto Eco?” she asked, excitement brimming in her words. The firm, reserved, minister’s face she typically wore was replaced with pure, unfiltered excitement. Helena’s childhood had been relatively lonely, and of the people she truly was close to, she rarely was able to discuss her deep rooted love of foreign literature. “It’s an incredible novel in the translated form, but I’ll admit, the artistry is even more remarkable,” she admitted, giving him a grin. Her eyes widened, as she nodded, “It’s definitely better, but both are fantastic reads. Do you like mystery novels in general?” she asked. Helena had always loved reading in general, but detective fiction was undeniably one of her favorite genre.

Allowing herself to lean back and breathe out a relaxed sigh, as she watched him through half laden eyes. Helena couldn’t help but focus on the beauty of the man before her, and she felt goosebumps rise as he caressed down her body. More often than not, Helena was much more active, sometimes even dominate during sex, but sometimes all she wanted was to relax for a while. As he kissed her, she couldn’t help but relax further into his hold. Helena let her lips move down his neck, and her hands roam over his body. “This is what I need,” she mumbled.
Sitting at the park, she found herself leaning back against the tree a little more firmly. Helena couldn’t remember the last time she had a day off to herself, though she had to admit, she didn’t mind the company. Still, it had been ages since she’d been able to just sit down and read for a while. Oddly enough, murder mysteries had always been her favourite and sitting down with The Name of the Rose was undoubtably one of the best ways to spend her time. It was beautiful outside, and she found herself turning the pages as quickly as she could possibly read them. Italian was the second language she learned, and she found that reading it was as natural as it was to read English. She was lost in the pages and it took her a moment to realize that someone was trying to get her attention. Putting her finger where she left off, Helena looked up and replied, “Sorry, I was a bit distracted, what did you say?”

It had taken them time to actually spend proper time together. Sure they went out to lunch or dinner now and again, and Emmeline popped into her office regularly to chat, but spending time at one another’s homes was a new step, and Helena had to admit that she was nervous. Getting to know her sister was more exciting than nerve wrecking at this point, and while Emmeline didn’t make her feel nervous, the idea of losing the relationship she was gaining did. Helena was fairly good at cultivating, even nurturing, her relationships, but this was still new territory for her.
Still, she showed up at the given address with a bottle of her favorite wine. Trading out her work clothes for a pair of black joggers and a baby blue sweatshirt that hung loosely, she realized this would be the first time Emmeline saw her outside of her ministry position. She would just be Helena tonight, without the undersecretary title hanging over her. Letting out a nervous sigh, she knocked on the door. When it opened, she smiled warmly, “Hey, I come baring gifts.”

“I can do that,” he said, moving to grate some parmesan as she spoke. He could see something was going through her mind, so he waited until she spoke and then hummed in his own thoughts. “She’s in the Order, right? She’s… Clever. Has good ideas. I don’t know her well, though, why?” he asked, looking sideways at her and raising an eyebrow.
Smiling, she gave a hum, “Merci.” Helena hadn’t told many people about her latest revelation. It wasn’t that she didn’t want anyone to know per say, she just didn’t want to deal with the scandal of it all. With her position within the ministry, she knew it would garner unwanted attention, and with everything else going on, she didn’t want the press focused on something so petty.
Helena nodded, listening closely as Sirius spoke. “She’s my sister,” she told him softly, “Half sister, but semantics,” Helena clarified, waving her hand. Turning around so she was facing him, she shrugged, “Turned out dear mumsie had an affair at some point. I’m not overly surprised by the affair portion, but despite not being overly close with my parents, I hadn’t quite anticipated this.”

The one thing that Rita hated the most was not being trusted and being a journalist it tended to happen a lot. Rita sighed looking Helena up and down easily reading Helena’s body language. She could tell something was bothering her, though much like her mother taught her, Rita wasn’t going to pry. Helena took on such a high role at such a young age. At her age, Rita had moved out on her own out of her mothers house, she was writing odd end articles for the Prophet. It had been a year since Sirius left when Rita turned 21. Switching her position in her chair, Rita nodded her head in agreement. Stories will never grow old, we’ll never run out of them. If people get bored of them, you just exaggerate them a bit. Rita gave her a tight smile before answering her.
Of course, Helena wasn’t alright. She of all people is having to deal with the backlash of James’s murder, she of all people - shouldn’t be worried about that. “Oh honey, I’m good. Like I said earlier been busy, very busy with all the hustle bustle that’s about.” Rita shrugged. “Things have been extremely pleasing in my life right now. The Phoenix doing way better than I expected, I’m just glad people trust me.” She said with a small smile. Her smile faded rather quickly in though of her next few words. Rita was going to be 26 in November. She had everything she ever wanted…Her career was perfect, her house was perfect… but she felt like something was just missing. “I guess my next step should be really thinking about settling down, start a family or something.” She said in a rather playful, though almost mocking town in her head.
There were only a select few people that Helena trusted, and it was a very tight circle of people. Growing up in a home like the Rosier’s, trust was hard to come by, and with the war, it was even more difficult. It was nothing personal, not really, but Helena was cautious with who she truly opened up to. “I’ve found that stories of hope do well in times such as these,” she murmured, knowing that the world could use a little more light.
Smiling softly, she nodded, “Well I’m glad to hear it. Busy is good I supposed, especially when you’re running a whole paper,” she mused kindly. Being undersecretary, and now acting minister, had made Helena weary of the press in general. She knew that there were good reporters; that was undeniably true. However, some of them that she’d encountered were vultures, and it was exhausting to say the least trying to keep up with their mind games at times. With a soft hum she answered, “You stick to the truth and the facts; you’ve given people a reason to trust your paper.” Helena nodded, thinking about those next steps herself. For so long she’d rejected the idea of getting married, having children, for fear that it would be to a dominating pureblood man that her parents picked out for herself. However, that future looked blissful when she considered sharing it with Regulus. “I dunno, there’s something appealing to a quieter life sometimes, but then, it’s not for everyone. There is no should be steps, not if you throw social constructs out the window,” Helena mused, a playful grin to match.
shameless-siriusly:
Sirius still felt strange walking into Helena, Rab, and Reg’s place, but as he apparated to their apartment, he opened the door and entered all the same. He knew they were welcoming him, but he supposed part of his brain he was used to locked doors and being unwelcome. Thank the Black family for that, he thought to himself, pushing the thought away as he breathed in the delicious scent of homecooked food. He really should learn how to cook better than he did.
“Hey, Lena,” he said hugging her and kissing the top of her head. “I’m good, wishing I could sleep in tomorrow. How about you? I see you’re making amazing food as always. Can I help?” he offered, walking to the sink to wash his hands.
One of the things she loved about sharing her flat with Regulus and Rabastan was that they could have family over at any given time. It was a neutral space to some degree, and that was comforting. Sirius had become a part of her family as quickly as Reg had, and having this time was something she truly appreciated. With a soft squeeze she let go and gave a hum, “I’m glad to hear it, though I very much agree with that sentiment. If only we didn’t all have day jobs,” she teased. Shaking her head, she answered, “In a bit I’ll have you get the noodles boiling, but for the time being I’m just breading the chicken so it can bake. Actually, if you want to grate some parmesan cheese that would be great.”
As she started setting the breaded chicken in a pan, she contemplated how best to share her news. Sometimes, it was easier to just be direct about these matters, and she knew Sirius wouldn’t mind a more straightforward approach, “So there’s been a new development in my family history,” she started, turning to him with a softer look, she asked, “What do you know of Emmeline Vance?”
alexandermckxnnon:
Alexander knew very well how important it was that he stayed up to date with the latest political advances, and he was glad now for the fact that he had always taken that seriously. It was clear that Helena Rosier appreciated his compliment on her release. As undersecretary, no doubt she had long been taken advantage of by those in power above her, and he was sure that it was nice for a chance to be able to do her work without a Minister breathing down her neck to do things the way they wanted.
Alexander nodded in understanding. He was used to stuffiness thanks to his family heritage, but he agreed wholeheartedly with her that it was a nuisance. “I agree with that,” he said with a laugh, looking around as he adjusted his cuff links. He didn’t wholly mind the dressing up, either, but it was true that he would have been more comfortable in his typical daily robes than these stiff dress ones.
“That’s a shrewd way of looking at things,” he said, meaning it as a compliment. “You wouldn’t want to make your job harder by pissing one of them off before they’re even elected.” Though he somehow doubted that there was much that could piss Kingsley Shacklebolt off. Rodolphus Lestrange, on the other hand? Well, he was an easier target as far as pushing someone’s buttons went. “Are you looking forward to the election being over or enjoying this time without a boss to put demands on your attention?”
The last minister had been dirty in every sense of the word; in how he treated women, the deals he made, and the write offs he took. More often than not, he left things to her to actually get accomplished; the only upside being that he didn’t pay attention to what she was doing more often than not, which allowed her to do things her way. However, not being able to work as a unit was frustrating, and made everything a bit more time consuming than it needed to be. Still, Helena found some peace in being able to do it herself without any hassle from anyone.
“I don’t mind the events themselves; I quite enjoy dressing up and dancing now and again, but I think a lot more would be accomplished if everyone spoke a little more candidly, and more fun would be had if everyone could show a bit more of their personality,” she mused, before shrugging, “but I digress. This is the way of things, and somehow I don’t think that’ll ever really change,” she finished, a soft smile gracing her features.
Nodding, she gave a hum, “Thank you.” Her job was more politics than anything, but she was good at playing their games without stooping down to their level. “Exactly. Either way, I’ll be working with one of them rather closely,” she agreed. Rodolphus was like family; he was family. It would take a lot to make him angry with her, but finding out about her betrayal could potentially be just the trigger. Kingsley? He would be easy to work with, and she knew they’d function much like a team. “I’m looking forward to the election being over, solely because it’ll bring back a sense of normalcy. Truthfully, things haven’t been all that different from what I was doing before - I just publicly have more responsibilities,” she explained, hoping he understood what she meant. Helena had already been doing all the work, just not receiving nearly enough credit.
theblackestandromeda:
Andromeda smiled, despite herself, at the look of contentment that crossed Helena’s face as the younger woman talked about Regulus. The Blacks had been full of ire when those three left the family and disgraced them all, but most of the ire had been directed at Sirius and Narcissa, not Regulus. He was so young, so impressionable. Of course he would follow where his brother lead, no matter what he really wanted. As such, they didn’t hold negative feelings toward him in the same way, and Helena had their blessing when it came to dating him. Andromeda was glad that her cousin had found someone to love – didn’t everyone deserve that kind of luck?
Andromeda received Helena’s compliment humbly, but was glad to know that others saw clearly the part she played in their whole operation. She was glad to be behind Bellatrix and Rodolphus, so long as her role in putting them on the throne didn’t go unnoticed. Of course, she would do anything for her sister, but she craved the same respect that the Death Eaters showed Bellatrix, wanting it to be shown to her as well. The Black sisters together were the ones to rule, and it was better that the world see that.
“Well, you will have my support if ever you do decide to run. Not a bad idea to wait for some more experience, though.” And maybe as the years passed, Helena would prove her loyalty to the point where Andromeda could trust her in such an office. That would be the ideal situation – as much as she loved Rodolphus, the thought of a woman on their side in the post of Minister was an appealing one. Women would be the ones to rule this new world, once the Black sisters did their work of establishing it. “And of course, I’d be happy to host fundraisers for you just as I’m doing them for Rodolphus now.”
As the attention turned back to Andromeda and what she was up to, she remembered her real purpose for this little visit, and was grateful for the opportunity to seamlessly turn the subject toward the information she was seeking. “Oh, you know, just typical work for the cause,” she said, waving her hand. “You know the drill. Bella told me that the attack on Diagon Alley was your idea,” she said, her tone light and conversational. “A pity that somehow that information got leaked.”
While Helena firmly agreed with Regulus’ decision to leave, and knew full well that he had wanted nothing more, she was grateful that his family hadn’t seen it that way. Helena would have been with him regardless, but it was comforting to know that her cover could be kept intact, even with them having a public relationship. Regulus was her world, and she didn’t want to be a part of one without him. He was the brightest star in her sky; her true north.
Andromeda was much more capable than people truly seemed to realize. Maybe it was because she was also a second born, or because she’d been overlooked her entire life, even still, but she truly saw Andromeda. It didn’t go unnoticed by her how much work the other woman put in, and how much of the Death Eater’s success was attributed to her.
“That means the world to me,” she murmured, and it did mean a great deal. Helena gave a hum, “I think more experience would make me a better leader, should that day ever come.” Helena knew that getting close to the Black sisters was crucial. Being one of the youngest females in their circle, she had the unique position of being able to come to them as a mentee. Without hesitation she smiled warmly as she spoke, “I would love nothing more. If I run, I would be grateful to do so with your guidance. I have no doubt we could do great things one day, though I think getting Rodolphus in office now is going to be a great step for us. With he and I working as a team in office, and with you and Severus to consult with, I think we’ll accomplish a lot.”
It was a terrifying thought, Rodolphus winning. No longer would she be deceiving them one at a time, but instead she would be the only force in place to stop them from enacting terrible policies. Helena hoped it didn’t come to that. At Andromeda’s answer, she gave a hum, there it is, she thought. The real reason for this visit revealed itself, and Helena had prepared herself for the thinly veiled interrogation. “It was, though I have to admit it, I hadn’t expected Bellatrix to actually follow through on it. When she asked, I assumed she was just looking for suggestions,” she answered. Helena had no way of knowing if Bellatrix actually followed through with the plan, as she wasn’t in their ranks.
“I imagine you’re looking for the person that tipped the Order off, yes?” she asked, deciding to go with a more candid approach as opposed to playing dumb, knowing the other woman would see through that. “I can’t imagine someone selling out their own kind. Most of us have known each other since we were children, grown up together, it’s like selling out family. It’s hard to imagine someone doing that, though I guess that might be my house talking,” she mused, giving a soft smile at the end, her eyes showing her sincerity.

kxshacklebolt:
Kingsley smiled gratefully at the compliment, glad that Helena didn’t see him as just another necessary but annoying part of the job. He was high up enough in the Order to know where her true loyalties were, and he was glad for this chance to work a little more closely with her. He only hoped that he would win this election so that together, the two of them could build the safer world that they wanted for the people that they loved. “I would love some tea!” He responded, his tone chipper. He enjoyed this chance to get away from the chaos that the Auror office was always in, no matter what was going on.
At her question, he shrugged. “Honestly, I think I’m still getting used to this whole running for office thing,” he said a little sheepishly. “As far as strategy goes, I’m afraid I still think like an Auror and not a politician. I think we should probably do a fundraiser too, but then my Auror brain says that’s a perfect opportunity for the other side to strike back after what happened at theirs. And I know there’s the debate coming up before the election, so I should probably practice so that Rodolphus doesn’t soundly wipe the floor with me.”
More than anything, she hoped that Kingsley was their elected Minister. The idea of being the last line of defense against Rodolphus, Severus, and Andromeda was a terrifying thought, and while she was prepared to do so if necessary, it wasn’t the ideal outcome by any means. “Brilliant. Any preference on the kind?” she asked, filling two cups with water as she brought the tray over to the area of the room that was meant for more comfortable meetings. Setting it down on the table between the arm chairs, she took a seat. “Here, you can pick any of them,” she offered, handing him the box she kept her teams organized in, after taking out an herbal one for herself.
“Understandably so. It’s a strange process, especially given the current political climate,” she agreed. It was a difficult race to run anyways, but when attacks were happening left and right, it posed more obstacles to navigate. Smiling, she nodded, “Honestly, I think that might help you in this case. Right now, strategy does need to be thought out in terms of safety. An event, while good for meeting people, would pose a massive security threat. Of course, we could have extra volunteer security,” she suggested, clearly hinting at stationing Order members to counter any attack that might come. Shaking her head, Helena grinned, “He won’t wipe the floor with you. You have the trust of the people Kingsley, and the more you can play on that the better. You’re not a career politician like Rodolphus, and your family hasn’t been grabbing power the way his has for generations. We’ll practice for the debate, but rest assured, so long as you give candid answers, you’re going to have no problem winning people over.” Helena knew that people wanted someone they could trust to have their best interests at heart, and that was Kingsley.
