i might give single-boot linux another chance, i think i maybe shouldn't have used an arch-based distro on my main PC, i need something more stable. still love arch though
@opensuse-official Tumbleweed is a far more stable rolling release distro! I run it solo on my stuff & have never had any issues!*
* except for when I accidentally ran rm -rf ~, but that's 100% user error :( always have backups ._.
They do a little bit of testing before pushing, and if anything happens the boot manager will let you boot with an older version of the kernel easily!
Lowkey not into the ARM hype. Laptops with good battery life sound nice but I'm not into the thing phones have going on where a model can get 2 years of updates and that's it. I'm more about being able to use 30-year-old stuff as long as I want.
I take so many exceptions to this
First, where are you seeing anyone suggesting ARM laptops have that short of a lifespan before being replaced? Second, even if they did, how is that different from any other piece of modern tech? My macbook gets years of updates whether it runs macos or linux. Wanting devices to last longer is fine but this very niche hatred of an ISA (??????) as an embodiment of a broader capitalism issue just does not make sense

To answer your question, the display server everyone knows and love is really just named X, and it's currently (currently meaning since a long time ago) in its 11th version, so most call it X11. The only implementation of the X server anyone actually uses these days is X.org (aka me). However back in the 90s and early 00s there were others! XFree86 is one you may have heard of, and it still gives its name to keyboard keycodes like XF86AudioMute.

what are your favorite Linux clients for these? I enjoy terminal mode with vim bindings, but if there are good graphical clients for KDE that respect theming and are good for in-videogame use, I'd love to try them

Distrobox! It lets you run a little tiny other distro and then run apps (including GUI ones) from there!
