@river-official
I recently found my “gold” hammer after misplacing it. It’s my favorite tool ever because it looks like a regular hammer trying to be fancy,
but then you twist both halves and unscrew it to find a flat-head screwdriver in the middle.
BUT, if you twist the very end and unscrew that
you find a phillips screwdriver.
BUT DON’T THINK THAT’S ALL THERE IS! THERE’S MORE!! unscrew the very end again to find a smaller flat-head screwdriver!
BUT THAT’S STILL NOT THE END!!
unscrew the end of this screwdriver to find a final, teeny tiny, flat-head screwdriver
look at how cute it is!
it’s like a matryoshka doll of tools.
I have one of these and I keep it in my IT toolkit because that teeny little screwdriver is the right side for laptop casings, but because it lives inside a large object it’s harder to misplace than a standard tiny screwdriver. Also because the look on a client’s face when you bring out a brass hammer to fix their laptop is absolutely wild.
I seem to have been converted to bar on the side of the screen
I do not know how to feel about this
but I really like having more vertical space for programs
one day you might not even use a bar :D
hi tumbleweed, what text editor do you use? <- definitely not hoping for a specific answer
editing text is a dirty fight for survival with blunt and barely functioning tools. maybe some day something will pick up helpless little me and push me into using something that does work for me.
hopefully that day comes eventually
#no one uses vi
you have found my only weakness (autism, object personification, need for harmony, being super easy provoked into a challenge, nostalgia and longing for computer tech i never used, ...) so i now have:
"get the build of traditional vi to work on my machine (hopefully just configure the Makefile, but i don't know how to do that right)"
on my list.
Ever tried emacs?
Easier to wrap your head around than (n)vi(m) since emacs is not modal.
Nobody's saying emacs *can't* be modal
quit the bickering already <3
The truely evil option would be to use TECO
Of course, the only sensible option is WordPad running through WINE
Ok that is truly evil
So apparently the people of tumblr really like when I glaze Linux.

my girlfriend uses arch btw (sad) ...but i am secretly working on hooking her other girlfriend on the t'weed (short for tumbleweed)
As a polyamorous lesbian i strive for the future in which I can post about my three girlfriends. And yes, they use t'weed.
don't stay stuck in your despair, be the real you!
The DIY HRT Directory offers transgender individuals comprehensive guidance on safely performing DIY hormone replacement therapy, including
so like. what do people who can't afford this do. are we just supposed to? die or something??
check mutual aid networks
Our goal is to bring you safe, reliable, and quality hormone replacement therapy for an affordable price.
I really want to explore elixir through making a web app with pheonix, but it is too pragmatic, making it so much more difficult to make it run under nix. I hate it so much, why does it just download a tailwind binary? Why does it expect a db just running by default?
I am planning on distrohopping soon
So I leave this to you tumblr what distro should I put on my work laptop
What distro?
Fedora
Debian
Ubuntu
Something arch based (not entirely sure which one but probably Cachy)
Kali
Mint
Suse
may I recommend nixos?
Covid caution is workers' rights praxis. Keep your comrades safe whether you work with them or rely upon their labor. Wear a quality respirator in public spaces.
If I was to ever write an article about how the inaccessibility of bottom surgery impacts the lives of trans women I would feel morally obligated to title it “what no pussy does to a motherfucker”
SERVICE DOG PSA
So today I tripped. Fell flat on my face, it was awful but ultimately harmless. My service dog, however, is trained to go get an adult if I have a seizure, and he assumed this was a seizure (were training him to do more to care for me, but we didn’t learn I had epilepsy until a year after we got him)
I went after him after I had dusten off my jeans and my ego, and I found him trying to get the attention of a very annoyed woman. She was swatting him away and telling him to go away. So I feel like I need to make this heads up
If a service dog without a person approaches you, it means the person is down and in need of help
Don’t get scared, don’t get annoyed, follow the dog! If it had been an emergency situation, I could have vomited and choked, I could have hit my head, I could have had so many things happen to me. We’re going to update his training so if the first person doesn’t cooperate, he moves on, but seriously guys. If what’s-his-face could understand that lassie wanted him to go to the well, you can figure out that a dog in a vest proclaiming it a service dog wants you to follow him
aaaaa omg a coworker just came to my desk like "oh, you changed your name? me too, look!--" and pointed out her badge and then her ringless hand and gleefully announced, "divorce!!" and we exchanged congratulations and fist bumped djdnsnjs best interaction of my entire transition
STATUS: DIVORCED (POSITIVE)
the women love my extensive navidrome music collection and my weird configuration.nix file
which linux distro should i use
ubuntu
debian
mint
zorin
arch
something else
I suggest giving openSuse a try
I’ve started learning how to edit videos. This is a brand new skill for me. I’ve never tried anything like this before. But, access to free software means there’s no reason not to anymore.
Switched to Linux. Started gaining new skills.
Wheee!
