Thomas rolls worst joint ever٫ Banished from the Glade
in honor of pride month im going to email james dashner to ask if alby and newt both dying on chapter 55 was subtext of them being in homosexual love with each other
Im really enjoying all the scenes with the og trio in the fever code book so far. It really melts my heart to know that they became friends again after losing their memories.
I also think it's interesting that while Alby and Newt seemed to be the closest in the Glade it looks like Minho and Alby are the main duo here. I guess it makes sense since we do see in the first book Minho and Alby must be close too to some degree while Newt and Minho's relationship is a tad more complicated٫ but still I find it interesting.
Wicked's boy
Reading the fever code will genuenly just make you understand why the gladers turned out the way they did. I was expecting something awful but man dashner really went all out from the very start didnt he. Wow
Baby Alby. So cute too cute how can you even exist. STOPTHIS
Sometimes hatred just turns into obsession. Those feelings of animosity and aversion become too overbearing٫ and it becomes all Newt can think about. His mind is constantly swimming in scenarios where he kills or hurts Thomas٫ where he finally takes revenge for everything that happened to him٫ and slowly٫ his image is warped and changed.
Once he learns he's sick with the Flare٫ he becomes fixated on one specific thing: Thomas must kill him. Not because the others can't٫ I mean٫ it'd be extremely easy to tick off the other Cranks and have them tear him apart٫ but because he won't allow it. Thomas has to be the one to kill him٫ because it's the only way justice will ever be attained.
His fixation turns into near idolatry٫ he sees Thomas as his only salvation٫ and all he can think about is hurting him٫ even if he tries to convince himself that he doesn't want to٫ because he knows it's wrong٫ so he writes in his diary that he loves him so many times that the pen eventually starts ripping through the pages٫ and his wrist hurts. He also keeps his things٫ pretending that he misses him٫ trying to convince himself that those feelings are just the Flare speaking to him٫ but all that does is remind him of how much he hates him٫ anytime he sees them٫ and especially any time he sees him.
All he thinks about is that boy٫ how much he'd love to hurt him٫ and rip him to shreds٫ and his heart weeps٫ not because he actually doesn't want to٫ but because he knows he does٫ and he knows it's wrong٫ but he still does٫ no matter how much he tries to pretend to be a good person. He can't do that anymore. So instead of hate٫ he calls it love. Newt has been pretending all his life anyways٫ so why not do it a final time? At least it sounds prettier that way.

minmas doodle for an unfinished thing
Gonna hold tmr fans' hands when I say this٫ but Thomas is not canonically gay and was never even implied to be queer at all. I get the visceral reaction someone might have seeing content of a ship they don't like٫ especially if it goes against a sexuality headcanon they have. I know feelings around these things tend to be delicate٫ but hating on female characters because they get in the way of your preferred gay ship is not fighting for queer rep٫ it's just being plainly misogynistic٫ especially when said hate consists of celebrating the death of a character who already suffered so much misogyny at the hands of her author and whose whole existence was reduced to being the love interest who sacrificed herself for the sake of the male mc while constantly villified and punished by the narrative.
I would say I understand disliking Teresa٫ but somehow it always inevitably comes down to her interfering with the white boy yaoi or how much better a male character is regardless of the very mild reasons given to justify hating her٫ so if you feel attacked by posts calling out misogynistic attitudes towards her by the fandom٫ chances are you have quite a few things to unpack.
Do you guys think thomas got a little hard watching minho and newt fight the one time
Dēvōtiō
Im kinda sad that there's so little variety when it comes to book Newt fanart. It all seems to take so many elements from the movie version and I just wish it didn't. It feels SO refreshing whenever I see fanart for the books where his design is completely divorced from the movie.
I also wish more people took into account that book Newt is described as being massive and also stupidly strong (yeah whatever Thomas is biased because he's very obviously into muscles but we know that atleast he's taller than most Gladers).
Also personal pet peeve of mine this is just me being mean but I don't like the weird tiny ponytail thing people give him٫ it doesn't rly make any sense (just give him a normal one atp?) and I also just dont like the sort of floofy golden retriever vibes people go for with his design٫ which once again is related to the general fanon design taking a lot from his (also fanon tbh) movie version.
this is alby tmr
I've said this before in previous rants but the movie version of alby does him so dirty. he's a nicer person but he's a worse character because of it.
Because, ok, whatever, take the character whose whole point is that he's aggressive as a way to cope with just how afraid he is and how in the end he's just a kid who's had to take on an enormous responsibility and isn't able to handle the pressure, and then make him into a guy that's actually a great leader and actually he's been a great leader from the beginning because he spent a wholeee month on his own and survived and he's actually really mature and can handle the pressure just fine. Oh no aren't you just so sad that this super nice guy who's like super nice is now sick?? oh goodbye he's dead!!
Like the movie doesn't just make him nicer, it gets rid of any complexity because in this version Alby isn't struggling with being a leader, he's actually doing just fine with that. That fully changes the view you have of the character, because Alby in the books is supposed to be immature and kind of obnoxious to Thomas. That's!! The whole!! Point!! He's not this wise–beyond–your–years character, he's supposed to be a scared teen that acts like a scared teen!!
Even though Alby is pretty mean at the start of the book, by the end you're supposed to understand that he's that way to avoid falling into despair, which is exactly what happens after he goes through the changing, and one of the most impactful scenes of him where we finally get to really see that is when Alby comes clean about being the one to burn the map room while SOBBING, confessing that what awaits for them outside the maze is terrifying and he would rather die before leaving the Glade. This such a sad, human moment for him!!
And the movies just like, aren't interested in that. That can't happen in a world where Alby is just a chill mature leader. His role in the movie is much more minor than that in the books, and any of his relationships with other characters are barely there. We don't get his interactions with Newt, we don't get him interacting with Minho and Thomas seeing his 'tough' demeanor crack for once, we don't get Newt worrying sick about him and Minho, we don't get his conversation with Thomas after he went through the changing, DAMN even in deleted scenes Alby isn't allowed to be an important character, because suddenly Minho is made to be the one that rescued Newt when he attempted suicide.
His death scene being much earlier in the movie and way less impactful also goes to show the writers weren't interested in making Alby an interesting character. He literally dies the way a side character dies in the books.
whatever I don't even care about alby tmr
