An oldish attempt at a book accurate Crank Newt since the other piece I posted made me realise I couldn't draw him for shit and needed to lock in lol. This is somewhat what I pictured him looking like when Thomas and the gang went to try to take him out of the Crank Palace in tdc.

Looking at my newt art progression its rly evident when I decided to implement shape language and start prioritising the overal silhouete of his body over details into his design and Im really glad I did. I feel like it develops the full potential the design already had and gives him so much more of a personality than the old one did

I think that something that gets kind of ignored rather often is how Thomas earned Minho's loyalty by being everything he could not be.

Even though Thomas is not the prettiest٫ nor the most physically fit Glader٫ it was his bravery and courage when entering the Maze and insisting on saving Alby that made Minho follow him to the ends of the earth.

Minho didn't just see freedom in Thomas٫ he also saw a much better person than he was٫ and someone he wanted to be like٫ making that seemingly crazed Greenie deserving of his unquestionable loyalty.

For Minho٫ Thomas was hope in freedom٫ but also hope in a better future where he could overcome his fears and get rid of everything that held him down٫ including himself.

Minho valued freedom above anything else٫ and to him٫ Thomas embodied both freedom from his physical captors٫ and from the self imposed jail he'd been living in until then٫ pretending to be someone he was not and letting himself cower when faced with true fear. Thomas changed that when he faced down against a Griever٫ and forced Minho to face his real self. forcing him to accept he was a coward٫ and then change himself for the better٫ turning into the brave (if flawed) leader he later became.

Woohoo! The first chapter of our fic is posted! @violetacat and me have worked on this for so long it feels kinda surreal lol. We love this au so much and have put so much passion into it٫ we hope you really enjoy it!

New chapters will be posted on the 9th of every month from now on :) To celebrate the release of chapter 1 we made proper reference sheets for knight Newt (aka Sir Isaac Newton Smith) and Prince Alby (aka Prince Albert E. of the House of Stein) with very minor updates to their designs.

We know Sonya and Harriet were originally meant to be a fun little nod to nalby in the classic "what if x character was a girl instead" but I do like to think personality wise they were the opposite of them.

While Harriet would still be the leader of the Gladers٫ she'd be much more soft spoken and calm٫ feeling easier to approach and being trusted by almost all of the Gladers in Group B. Sonya on the other hand would be more overtly mean and snappy٫ she'd have fewer friends and some people would outright dislike her٫ but she'd remain just as protective over Harriet as Newt was with Alby٫ mirroring her brothers tendency to emotional dependence on his friends and unhealthy attachment styles that developed as a result of their shared childhood trauma.

I also like to think physically they're the opposite as well٫ with Sonya being the tinier٫ less intimidating one and Harriet being very visually striking and fit :P Idk٫ I just think it's a fun twist on the trope the books originally present
