“yeah,” lou ellen says softly, and fervently hopes that he doesn’t see how rosy red her cheeks are rapidly becoming. “i like food. i like to be fed.” a beat, and then: “uh, i mean, i can do dinner.” gods, her sister would probably ground her forever, but it’s been such a long time since she went out with anyone.
well, anyone other than her ex girlfriend, that is. and she wants to see where this goes. if the ground doesn’t open up and swallow her whole for verbal faux passes first.
CARDS ON THE TABLE? Julian is a little surprised by Lou Ellen saying yes so easily. He’s used to flat out rejection, or at least —— he used to be. God, how long has it been since he’s been on an actual date? The dance at the end of the school year, before everything had gone to hell? Or... was it after that? He couldn’t be sure anymore, but it sure felt like a lifetime since then.
Honestly, it had almost been instinctual to ask her on a date. Here she was, a pretty girl that Julian was growing fond of, and the opening to place forth the question. It wasn’t like he hadn’t thought about it, but she was definitely TOO GOOD for him.
“ Really ? ” He has to ask, has to make sure he didn’t mishear. The emotions he gets off her aren’t negative. He can sense her openness to the idea before he has a chance to lock down that part of his SUBCONSCIOUS, the part that tells him what people are feeling but not thinking.
He hesitates, glancing around once before locking eyes with her, eyebrows raised. “ Are you free right now ? ”
