These illustrations of the eye come from medical texts, but they give off an almost sci-fi vibe! The image on the top comes from the 1901 edition of Charles Henry May’s Manual of the diseases of the eye: for students and general practitioners, while the image on the bottom comes from the 1943 edition, which included revisions by Charles A. Perera. Both images depict how the fundus of the eye – that’s the interior surface – appears when it’s viewed through an ophthalmoscope. The results are pretty wild.
