Hey so.

My middle little Lou? Turns 18 very soon. And still doesn't have a driver's license or even learner's despite wanting to drive. One part executive dysfunction on learning the booklet for the written test, and one part driver's ed is required by both law and mom (me) but is expensive. There is a nice program the school connects with this is Super Easy! And expensive. Sort of. All told from start to finish getting him his license will cost about 500$, including the BMV fees and such. I just can't make that happen. At least not in time for him to enter the adult world this summer. He plans to go trades (electrician) and needs to be driving so there is no transportation barrier. And I'm also well aware that 500$ isn't particularly complicated to fundraise. Especially since with such a manageable goal even small donations will add up super fast.

So what do you say, tumblr? Toss my kid a small amount for his 18t(!) birthday and help him get driving? We'd both appreciate it!

I'm going to be honest. As the single mom of 4 kids, one now out of state, that is 4 of us in this home still and I'm the only one who drives. And public transit in this area is shit. The metro area it's pretty solid i guess? But we're.... a bit removed. A car is a must for so much. Which makes my license and car indispensable. Which. There is so much driving for 4 people that i have zero help with. And yeah a lot of it is medical appointments i need to be there anyway. But the ability to hand Lou my car keys and send him out for xyz grocery item when he has spoons and i don't will be a game changer.

(Almost) Never having to worry about his ability to get to work starting this fall? Essential. I can't do this alone. I can't be the only driver.

That's where I'm coming from. From a point of exhaustion from being a single mom. I'm just tired. And it's about to get so much worse if he doesn't have a license by trade school and apprenticeship.

500$ isn't much but ideally we have it by his end of January birthday and I can't. And I'm not getting my usual tax return this year so I really can't. A 500$ kofi goal is achievable even with small donations. They add up. They really do.

If you can't donate i do absolutely understand. Food on the table is getting expensive. Rent is obscene. Plus lights and heat? Fuck. Me. So i get it. You have to put your needs first and I'd be pissed if you didn't.
