Some silly Batjokes sketches from the telltale series cause i love this 2
Am I the only one who noticed how there’s been two Batman stories where one involves Batman having a joker card shoved in his left eye, and another story involving joker having a batarang shoved in his right eye?
Also these scenes from Batman: Endgame and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns part 2
I decided to write about THAT scene from Batman #130 anyway. Nothing too deep or smart, just my thoughts. I don’t want to analyze, predict and guess the future, because my memory about how backfired at me my hopes about Geoff Johns’ Three Jokers is still very fresh.
Zdarsky is still dark horse regarding The Joker and batjokes. I remember how disappointed I was when I’ve read Urban Legends where stated that Batman’s ultimate dream is to choke the Joker with the bare hands and live in peace and happiness without him. So I sighed and thought - okay, I’m gonna live without normal relationship between Batman and Joker in Zdarsky’s run, the good writing and plot is more important now.
So it’s not surpising how shook I was by the finale of last issue’s backup story. Because, to be honest, I didn’t see such a profound, strong and emotional scene with the Joker since… well, The Killing Joke? I’m so tired because of the these authors’ hints that the Joker is evilest evil and his insanity is just a cover and he’s just absolutely sane and normal. No, he’s NOT normal and no, he CAN’T hold responsibility for his crimes. And Batman understands it - this is why he protects him and will never ever kill him.
Since backup story takes place in the early Batman’s years, it’s probably the very same moment when Batman understood that the Joker are innocent (in a sense) and he’s as much a victim of his own madness as the ones who suffers and dying from his hands. And I hope very much that this scene where Bruce see in a vision his mother who literally asking him not to kill the Joker but help him, will play a role in Zdarsky’s run. It’s supposed to be Batman’s main mission from now on.
