It’s a klaine anniversary so of course, I’m feeling sentimental
20 years later, Kurt and Blaine remember Dalton
‘Honey, can you take this and put it in the brown box in the kitchen and-‘ Kurt pauses as he finally gets to the bottom of the box he’s currently rummaging through, sorting old clothes into two piles- keep and throw out. He should have expected to find the blazer somewhere, but it had slipped his mind. It had been almost twenty years since he had last seen Blaine properly wear it, hidden in a box long since. But now the feel of it in his hands brought back a rush of memories, Kurt smiling as his gaze wandered down the lapel, settling at the iron on Dalton Academy patch.
‘Yeah?’ Elizabeth says, wondering why her Daddy has fallen quiet suddenly. It’s unusual, ever since it became the week of their move date Kurt had been a scatter of tension and stress.
‘Actually, never mind,’ Kurt smiles, turning round. ‘Can you just get Papa for me? He should be in the garage.’
Blaine comes up to the bedroom a few minutes later, sleeves rolled up and wondering why Kurt wanted him.
‘You alright?’ Blaine says.
Kurt gives the blazer to Blaine, watching his expression in amusement.
‘Hey!’ Blaine grins, starting to pull it on. ‘I haven’t seen this in ages- it got smaller, huh?’
‘Or you got bigger,’ Kurt smiles, pulling Blaine towards him for a kiss.
‘Not much,’ Blaine shrugs, nestling his head into Kurt’s shoulder. Kurt’s still taller than him, Blaine never really grew after senior year, but in a way that was a blessing. He fit against Kurt perfectly- like true soulmates, Kurt always said.
‘Remember the first time I saw you in it?’ Kurt asks, almost shyly, silently wondering if Blaine’s memory has faded over the years. It’s been a long time since high school, both of them different, changed in so many ways.
‘Of course. You snuck into my school, in your blazer and knee high socks-‘
‘God’ Kurt moans, rolling his eyes. ‘Think I chucked those out years ago.’
‘It was cute,’ Blaine smiles. ‘And I sang Teenage Dream, just like I did at our 15th wedding anniversary. And then we got coffee and it hit off from there.’
‘It feels like ages ago,’ Kurt says, a little sadly. Blaine recognises the sadness in his voice, hugging him closer.
‘And now we have two amazing kids, maybe one more in a couple of years, and a new house as of Thrusday,’ Blaine reminds him. ‘You’ve also got me, if that’s any consolation.’
‘I suppose,’ Kurt jokes, giving Blaine a slow, drawn out kiss. It lasts for a few seconds and they savour it, knowing they don’ have long before something interrupts them. Sure enough, Feta appears a few moments later, reaching up to knock pointedly on the door like her parents insisted she always do.
‘Daddies’ she yells, showing off a toothy grin, one tooth wobbling in her mouth as she talks. ‘Someone at the door!’
‘I’ll get it,’ Blaine says, sliding off the blazer and rubbing Kurt’s back before joining Feta, scooping her up to carry her down the stairs. Kurt’s left watching after them, thinking that yes, things turned out okay after all.
