Thank you to everyone who joined us today. It was lovely to walk with you all, to see where sea and land merge, to gulp the blasting air and be pushed home by it on our return. We saw kestrals, a marsh harrier & curlew, listened to skylarks over the vast landscapes of the hollow shores and washed it down with hot chocolate and ale in the @sportsmankent

When the estuary is warm (cold) Laura and Aimee are gone.

Falling more in love with my friends everyday as they surprise me with spontaneous beach dinners and post sunset plunges.

I was always told I'd sink if I swim after dinner. Shannon and i eat and holler from the side lines, ensuring everyone stays buoyant with full bellies, holding towels and scarves whatever we can to grab them from the cold when they emerge.

The cold and the damp are expelled in the warm light. My hand is shivered and shaky, from the biting cold and the need for a steady hand in the dark.

Hollowshores  - ramblings

The words said aloud in my head are gone, now I am home and warm. A blanket of bleak hung balefully over the east, as it has all week. Keep your chin up I tell myself, these winter days have nowhere to go and they’ll cling if you let them. Not even the birds wanted to take to the sky today, everything roosted among the pebbles in swarms; dunlins, turnstones and redshank leaving their spot in short, sharp murmurations from the shock of the kestrel over head. The path today was 9 miles, a straight forward linear route a simple line of earth to follow. This desolate place is hollow but not in significance, it is not vacant but stripped in a way that perforates your skin, sinks into you.

Midwinter Solstice

the hazel from the hedgerow bends fourth over head, garbed in blankets over the framework, nothing too ornate but your smile.

Late at night, tucked away in the woods, listening to owls screech, cursing my imagination. Dan gathers wood that Craig stokes up in the burner in the early hours and I make the first tea of the morning. We work until we fear our arms will fall from our bodies, out in the woods, in November.
