Red took a step back and crossed his arms. Maybe it was a good thing that Leaf didn’t notice it because the black shirt Red grabbed happened to be wrinkled in several spots and he certainly wasn’t on his A game tonight.

Green constantly did stupid things, but something as stupid as losing the gym? Red didn’t think it was possible. However he did it, and however stupid it was Green still remained their friend,”I honestly have no idea, Leaf. I’m trying to figure it out too.”

And as friends of Green, Red sprouted a sudden idea that could make the situation a little lighter. It was a long shot. A very long shot, but it was worth a try.

“Leaf, what if Fire came back down here for a week or so, and I stay here to figure out how to save Green’s gym? It could work if we plan accordingly..”

Leaf hadn't bothered asking him at the time, but she couldn't help but wonder how Green had managed to lose his gym. Did he lose a bet? Was it a challenge? Did the League strip him of his privileges? She'd essentially ruled out him giving it up, but maybe... 

"Eh?" She liked the sound of that plan so far. It'd certainly be nice to have the four of them together again! Still, she doubted the possibility of it actually happening. "I don't know. Fire just got there -- he won't be too keen on coming back so soon. We could ask, though. It's worth a try, if nothing else."

Leaf would always let herself in, Red knew that. So after they hung up their call, Red dashed off to his bedroom to grab a shirt and make in back in time to make it look like he had been waiting on his couch the entire time for her. 

“Hey there, Leaf.” Red smiled and stood from the couch, making his way around the glass table to greet his bestfriend with a quick hug. It felt like awhile since they’ve seen each other, and really it was a shame that they were neighbours and hardly saw or heard from each other. That didn’t matter now, though. Red was going to enjoy the time he was going to spend with her.

“So, I guess you heard about Green’s gym, huh?”

Any of the others would have seen through Red's careful posing, but Leaf was oblivious and noticed nothing. The only thing she saw was one of her best and oldest friends, and that was more than enough for her. "Red!" She chirped. It really was nice to see him again, and yes, it was nice to hug him again because despite being on that mountain half the time, he is really warm. Maybe that's how he survives up there?

Ah, but then he brought up the gym. "I heard about it, but that's all." She said simply. "What happened? He didn't do something stupid, did he?"

What a silly question -- of course he did.

[ Or so she says, but she isn't complaining in the slightest, although her face is pretty red. ]

I know. I don't mean to! I just get so busy... [ sigh ] I really should drag myself out of all this, shouldn't I?

It's a short walk from Leaf's house to Red's, but she tries to make it last as long as possible. She really has been out of the loop lately, and now she's paying for it. Jeez... things would be so much easier if she didn't keep herself so busy. It's summer...! Maybe she ought to lighten her load a bit, at least for now. She'd still be too late to spend a lot of time with Red and Fire, but there were plenty of others around. Green and Crys and Sapphire... she wasn't too late for them, and she'd make sure she wouldn't be!

Even though she'd tried to linger she arrives on Red's doorstep within a minute or two, but already she's feeling considerably lighter. She's made a plan and she's sticking to it! It shouldn't be hard, especially now the she knows she won't have to battle Green... whoops. Well, that was his thing to worry about, not hers! Er, sort of.

Anyway, that wasn't important. What was important was getting to spend a little time with Red before he set off for that stupid mountain again. What the two of them liked about that hunk of rock so much she didn't know, but she really despised it sometimes. Still, if it made them happy... she sighs. Gotta snap out of it! She knocks on the door quickly, but let's face it: the Pallet Town kids are all close enough that they tend to feel right at home in each other's homes, and so Leaf lets herself in.

"Hello? Red? Reee~eeeeed!"

[ Leaf pulls him into a hug and holds him tight. Her face is right up against his chest (shorty) and she mumbles into it, ]

It’s just I wouldn’t want to bother you, Leaf. You seem so busy lately and .. maybe that’s just me over-thinking it, really. I’m sorry that I thought you didn’t care. I’ll know for next time to tell you.

If you’d like, then please come over because I know I’ll miss you too. It’d be nice to see you before I go.

Well, yeah. I’ve been here for too long and I miss the snow capped mountain more than anything. I’m leaving tomorrow morning anyway. I just want to spend tonight at home. Too .. lazy to move right now.

Oh well, he sounds a lot like someone I know then, heh. Although you know better than I that hiding from your friends for too long doesn’t work out for anyone. Hopefully you understand the words I’m telling you.

Ah but yes, Goldenrod! I transferred to a university there for my upcoming fall semester. I was actually thinking of paying a visit to New Bark soon, to see Kotone, but she hasn’t exactly been answering her Poke Gear in a while… I figured she’s either busy or sleeping or busy sleeping but you never really know with her.

Oh? Where are you staying? Do you have a place? -- Eh? But Kotone's not in New Bark! She's been in Pallet Town for the last couple of weeks. Actually, we were supposed to go out to the islands to train a while back, but I... um, things got in the way. But she's here, mhm!

Hiding from Fire? Oh dear, that doesn’t sound good! But training! I’m glad to hear you back into action. Being dormant for long never did any of us good right? And yes I am home now! Moved into Goldenrod.

It's not really hiding, I guess. I mean, he doesn't look for long before getting distracted. He's kinda like a Meowth like that sometimes, looking at shiny things, hehe. Ah hello Leaf, I haven't heard from you in so long! You've been taking care of yourself?

Crys! It has been a while, hasn't it? I've been busy... training for my match with Green! And hiding from Fire maybe a little bit. Mhm! I've decided to do some training of my own! It doesn't seem fair that my Pokemon have to train so hard and I don't have to train physically at all, so I decided to! Min's been watching out for me -- I think she's afraid I'm going to go overboard or something.

Ah! How have you been? I haven't heard from you either! I bet you've got tons of stories to tell me about Unova and your classes -- but you're home now, aren't you? I wonder if I could stop by one of these days...

Green laughed quietly and smoothed his thumb over her lower lip. He couldn’t help but to drink her in. That soft, earthy smell which he so loved, the warmth of her eyes and that smile. Oh, how he adored that smile. Her felt her hand had clasped over his. She had forgiven him, to some degree — accepted those selfish mistakes, and all the things he’d done wrong. “I want to be what you deserve, y’know?” He murmured.

He wanted to be everything she deserved and more. She needed someone who would stand by her side — beyond the egotistical, shallow way he once would have called support. He would fight alongside her, with her. Green would do anything for her, everything for her that she needed. Gently, he parted her lips. “I want to make you happy.” His head tilted to one side, and gently pressed his lips to hers. A soft, tender kiss which he hoped would speak the words he could not, the words that always managed to stay glued to the inside of his brain. His hands moved down, away from her face and brushing just over her shoulders.

But I am happy, she wanted to say. I'm happy because you're here with me, and you're not being a colossal jerk for once. I'm happy because... I'm happy if you are.

Every word of it was true and it caused a smile to bloom across her face. Who would have known that she felt that way about one of her oldest friends and biggest rivals? Certainly not Leaf, as she had pushed down, deep down, before it even had a chance to surface. It was too dangerous, she told herself, too reckless to feel that way about someone like him... but in that moment, with her brown eyes searching his and his hand on her arm, with so much warmth and tension in between them, she swore any risk was worth taking. 

Then the thought of his lips entered her mind, only seconds before it happened. For a moment, shock; the only thing she felt was surprise and a sense of disbelief. Then her body relaxed, and her mind as well, and she was able to breathe. There was no way she was imagining this and no way it was being faked by either party. It was too real, and too short she realized as they fell apart.

Her Deerling eyes widened and she looked at him with the feelings she was never able to express before. "I think," she said softly. "I think I fell in love with you too."

I can understand that! Been busy myself with fixing up Cinnabar and whatnot. But I’m getting out and about again. So watch out! Grahahaha! Nothing can stop an old man blazing through life!

And I’ve kept my hands out of super science for a bit but I’m starting to reconsider! Thinking up some crazy stuff with robotics, I think. I got the wildest idea for an Arcanine robot just a little while ago…

That's good to hear! How's everything coming along over there? Is it fit for civilians yet? I haven't been there in a while, but it sounds like you've done a lot! Ehe, I'll be sure to stay out of your way, sir!

Eh? But wouldn't that be kind of, um, difficult? You'd need some really resistant metal considering all the heat an Arcanine has packed into it, and if it was fully functional with the fire-breathing and everything... could you really do that?
