Jiang Cheng allowing himself to get bossed around by kids half his age had to come out of somewhere though. like Ik in canon we don’t him interact with any kids, but no one even blinks an eye at Jin Ling bossing JC around, not to any extent that they’re genuinely surprised at least, more so just like “there’s the Jin boy, mouthing off again”
and like ? sandu shengshou, one of the most feared men in the cultivation world, just listens to these kids? for no reason . other than it makes them smile. and the kids know it! they don’t treat other sect leaders like this so it must be JC himself .
him in the early days w JL getting JL to tell him what exactly is going on, and teaching JL to just tell him what he wants instead of not, bc JC is Stressed™ and it’s much easier to fix the toddlers problems when he toddles up to you and says “I want lotus seeds! now!” and they never fell out the habit? and now it’s just how they function ? and other kids at Lotus Pier catch on as well .
any child can stop JC, mid stroll, even if he has other sect leaders with him. they’d tug his robe, demand he stay in one place, and JC says “okay” and waits for said child to come back with whatever present they have for him (typically a semi crushed flower or a frog they just found) and everyone else is flabbergasted but JC is like “they told me to wait, so I’m going to wait. I don’t want their parents getting mad at me or anything”
JC will do anything to make JL feel welcomed and loved and JL totally knows it. he’s always the first adult to show respect but also the first to tell him without lies what’s happening, and treat him like a proper sect leader. when everyone else was simplifying sect matters for JL when he first came to his Sect Leader position, JC was the only one to tell him straight up what was wrong and when JL fumbled, like any teenager would do, JC was the first to lead him through the problems until they could find a solution, not as a child, but as an equal.
also don’t tell JL but there’s always seven different seating arrangements for the dinner hall when he’s at Lotus Pier, JC organizes it all so he can sit with his friends and the Jiang Juniors know it by heart.
