Ani Lee Spring 2014 Lookbook
w/ Sam Francis
I recently got a chance to style and creative direct the wonderful designer Ani Lee's Spring 2014 Lookbook a couple months ago. I love Ani's effortless attention to detail. Her clothes flow. She makes a lot of separates in her Spring collection. I kept to monocromatic/minimalist looks to keep separates to further flow and keep the focus strictly on the wardrobe. This premeditated simplistic styling got a tad challenging in the beginning stages of thought. So I took inspiration from one of my favorite California painters, Sam Francis. Sam's paintings capture the beauty of human emotions and strange energies we try to define in zen like strokes set in amazing vivid colors. His paintings are in your face, sometimes relaxing, sometimes unapologetic, but always to the point and full of light and dark energy.

LISTEN: Allah-las 'Catalina'
I recently was turned on to the Allah-las by one of my favorite music supervisor's, Liza Richardson.
The vintage sounds of the Allah-Las combine the harmonies and hooks of the british invasion with the atmosphere of a West Coast psychedelic band. Three of the group's four members met while working at the legendary record store Amoeba, where they discovered a mutual love for '60s rock and the beach.
Allah-Las' new, self-titled album captures the carefree, breezy sounds of California —which makes sense, given that the entire band is made up of surfers. The album's dreamy romanticism feels rooted in nostalgia, which contributes to a vibe that can feel both joyous and melancholy.

Liu Wen(one of my favs) takes on the role of cowgirl for the May issue of Vogue China where she works with photographer Mark Segal. With makeup by Yumi Mori, Liu is the very picture of old west ruggedness combined with elegance as she sports a wardrobe of denim, fringe and leather from the likes of Ralph Lauren, Miu Miu and Rodarte styled by the amazing Tabitha Simmons.
Photographed by Greg Kadel for Vogue Mexico 2013.
