Just wanted to share this for my ace lesbian followers! Marilyn Monroe was most probably one of us asexuals, even if she didn't know about/use the terms we use to describe ourselves today. Reading these excerpts is almost the textbook experiences of aces before we find out community.

I feel weird about this every time it comes across my dash

The first part of that, is how the op so blatantly ignored the asexual parts of the tweet thread. Just completely ignored it. It's, you know, it's wow

The second part is, after my addition, how people don't engage with the bi part of my addition. You know, and both parts are people so happy to find out that MM is like them. That's great, and I agree.

MM liked women and had relationships with them. That's seems supported by the record. She also hated sex and didn't engage with "sexiness" etc, that seems supported too. The record also seems to support that she liked men and had relationships with them. She just didn't enjoy sex with them.

It's weird to erase the ace and bi parts about it. People are deeply welcome to do what they want with the information--MM is dead and "larger than life." whatever you makes you happy. But it's weird to erase it, especially when bi and ace are so prone to erasure. I think about this when I see the happy ace replies to this post. Those aces never would have known these things about MM unless I had updated the post with what the op purposefully left out - that's why I think it's important. Bi people also deserve to hear the good news.

These thoughts are more rambly than I would like. At the end of the day, I'm happy that MM can be Seen and loved by queer people. I just don't think parts of her have to be erased for her to be loved and embraced by us. Asexuality doesn't make her love women less. Loving men doesn't make her love women less.

Something they don't tell you about being aroace is that sometimes you do know you're not broken. sometimes you'll hang out with your friends, and they'll talk about their relationships and you know you're not broken. you know that you're just not into that. and you'll still feel shoved outside, you'll still feel sick when you realize that you can't relate in this way. and sometimes you have to live with that.
