Cartoon Network Cancelled a Show Because It Was Too Focused on Girls

Paul Dini is the creator and writer behind the Cartoon Network show Tower Prep, which was cancelled in 2011 after one season. Now Dini has revealed that he's fairly certain it got cut was because he wasn't doing enough to make the show appealing to boys.

When has a petition gained attention from news sites? I don't recall that EVER happening. A better idea would be to encourage people to write polite old-fashioned mail. Snail mail actually has produced some results with similar movements to this.

Are you sure about that? I certainly seem to recall it happening a few times, one of the more high profile cases of the year being this one. I agree, snail mail can be effective, but it's something we've tried in the past without seeing much success. Anyway, it's not like either option would hurt to try, so I suggest you do whatever you think would work best.

Cartoon Network Sexism Twitter Chat

Hey everyone,

So as I mentioned in an earlier post, we will be hosting a Twitter chat to help promote this petition. Here's what you need to know:

The chat will be hosted on YJFanVids' Twitter page

It will take place at 9:00 pm EST (6:00 pm for the West Coast) on Thursday, December 19th and will last one hour 

The hashtag we will be using is #heroesareforeveryone (please do not use the hashtag prior to the time of the Twitter chat)

How the Twitter chat works: every 5 to 10 minutes, YjFanVid's will post a question on a relevant topic (i.e. animation, sexism, TV shows). You're encouraged to answer the questions and interact with other users who are also participating. Just make sure to include the hashtag at the end of every tweet!

Hey everyone, we've done great so far with the petition and it's amazing that we've already gotten to 10,000 votes. Signatures are starting to slow down a bit now, so if you haven't already done so, please ask your family and friends to also sign. I would like to suggest the petition to be about getting a cartoon hero show with girl lead characters. Then we could show support to it and prove them wrong.

At the moment, we're trying to keep the petition more general so everyone-not just people who watch superhero shows-will want to sign. However, this is a great idea to suggest in the "reasons for signing" section of the petition!

I seriously cannot believe how quickly these signatures have been adding up. We hit our first goal in less than 24 hours!  Please keep signing and spreading the world. Get the petition on other social media sites, contact other Tumblr blogs (especially outside the fandoms), tell your family and friends. I've seen a few people express their doubt and say that an online petition won't do anything, but I disagree. I think if the petition gains enough traction, more news sites will pick it up and eventually CN will have to acknowledge us. Who knows, your signature on this petition could help ignite a series of important changes both at Cartoon Network, and across other industries.

Guys, I just want to clarify that Paul Dini and Kevin Smith were speaking out AGAINST the sexist behavior at Cartoon Network. I've seen a lot of people slamming them for being misogynists when that's not the case. Please don't send them angry messages!
