I don’t know if this is an obvious take or a hot take, but I think people need to start re-framing feminism as the fight for body autonomy as opposed to whatever this second wave revival gender essentialist bullshit we have going on right now. Once you reframe it in this way, it’s easier to understand intersectionality and why cis women are not the only people who need feminism. The lack of body autonomy effects cis women, trans people, intersex people, disabled people, poc, homeless people, sex workers, etc. and your feminism needs to include and prioritise all of these groups of people (which will include men btw) because feminism is about autonomy, not about establishing a matriarchy. Body autonomy is the biggest threat to the patriarchy, both with reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and even the right to not be drafted into military services. Once body autonomy is established for everyone, the patriarchy no longer has a leg to stand on.

And body autonomy does include things that you don’t personally like either. I was prompted to write this post after a series of bad takes from progressives, but one of them was re-hashing the Sabrina Carpenter album cover drama with “I don’t think it’s conservative of me to think that the album cover is a bad look when we’ve seen images of women being abused in this way” because I do actually think you’ve failed to understand feminism by projecting your morals onto a woman who was consensually expressing her own autonomy just because she expressed it in a way that you didn’t like or that made you uncomfortable.

Body autonomy also means unhealthy choices. Body autonomy also means regret rates. Body autonomy also means freedom of sexuality. Body autonomy also means mutilation. If you believe body autonomy has limitations and exceptions, then your feminism is most likely surface level.

TERFs are some of the biggest opponents to body autonomy, and if you find yourself thinking “oh people can do whatever they want with their bodies as long as it doesn’t harm them or make others uncomfortable” then you are far more susceptible to TERF propaganda than you think.

A part of me would love to teach Twilight to freshmen in college. There’s so much to discuss in terms of colonialism, racism, sexism, classicism, xenophobia, elitism, colorism, religion, the occult, reproductive rights, mental illness, what YA in 2000s romanticized (and is still romanticized depending on the genre and author) about teenage romance, what women/girls/those identifying as girls are taught to look for or find romantic. I feel like so many of these discussions are relevant and can be useful for eighteen year olds even boys/men. What are they taught to see as the male lead/romantic interest? What is an ideal romantic partner for boys according to the series? How does that affect socialization between friends of different genders or who identify in LGBTQ+ community?…and then a student says “brain rot” and the other part of me thinks I’d have better luck just creating my dream syllabi here for fun.

this might be a hot take but i HATE reading bimbo reader fics.

to be specific like hyper feminine reader who's literally the embodiment of a male fantasy and she's just stupid as fuck and has no self respect and is literally only used to furthur the plot by having sex with whoever the oneshot is about. its one thing when the fic actually has depth to it and is genuinely interesting to read, but when reader stops having a personality and good dialogue is when I drop the work because at what point does this become an excuse to literally write vile porn where a man degrades a woman for 6k words while plowing her from the back???? i don't mean to be that guy but we spent tewww long fighting for individuality just to give into the male gaze and turn our characters into literal fleshlights for the sake of kinks and horniness. I do understand the view of "well it's just writing" "well if you don't like it don't read it" "well degradation/dumbification kink" "well self-insert/self-indulgent", but in my personal opinion it gets to a point of being straight porn and feeding into the male fantasy of stupid big tiddy fat booty perfect body dumb bimbo porn bitches and just wanting to write about sex and being able to dumb down the reader to make it easier to write. yes I do dabble in bimbo reader fics sometimes they're cunty as fuck, I literally just read one the other day, but some fics do a very bad job at portraying a dumb sexy reader with a personality.

Hey guys, so when I made this post, I was extremely frustrated and annoyed. Now that I’m way more mellowed out and had the chance to read a lot of reactions and responses, let me act my age and actually clarify some things.

First, I want to apologize to those who were deeply upset by my post. My post overall was towards those who claim they don’t write for a specific audience, and yet put specific descriptions in their work. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with adding certain details to your reader, such as gender or body type. The issue comes in when you don’t properly title and tag it as so, or completely ignore it altogether.

If you see my post as an eye opener and want to change up your work, then you have every right to do so, but please do not think that this is an attack or jive directed at you. It’s just that some of us readers want exactly as promised. That’s like blindfolding someone, telling them that you’re gonna feed them an apple, and then making them bite into a banana - peel and all.

I know some writers have said that they want to be more inclusive in response to my criticism. If that is what you truly want, then by all means, but I cannot stress enough: write what YOU want to write. Do not feel as though you’re being pressured to change what you put out; it’s just a means of how you categorize it.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read, respond, and engage with my original post. I truly appreciate the perspectives shared, they’ve helped me see things more clearly and refine my thoughts.
