Oldam Gallery
When visiting Oldam Gallery I saw many different paintings to do with nature mostly living it was really interesting so see the different situations and view they had as many of them were very colours and gave of a vibrant and happy feeling to the viewer. This trip gave me many ideas on how I could draw and to think about the arrangement as it helps get across the message.
Venice Museum
This was one of the Venice museum I went to see in my own time I thought it was amazing to see the old style of art work they used to make and the history behind it.
After looking at Kimiyo Mishima work I saw that she created her own cans and designed them so I wanted to do the same but put the point across of how we are killing the world and that the children to come will be the one that have to live through our mistakes of pollution and destruction. Also her work gave me the idea to make a drawing of a bin with the world continents all around it because this is what we are treating it as a bin that and don’t care about the millions of animals and plant specie from them amount of plastic, glass and fumes we create, as well as using fossil fuels that end are harmful to us and kill seven million people per year.
The idea behind the hands was to represent the hands of god, as when I was a child my family would tell me how god made the word with his own hands within seven day and each day it was something different. This gift was given to us to look after it, treasure it and look after it, but we have done the opposite and killed the planet. I wanted to use both hands to show the difference of the beautiful forest and beaches to the dead trees and demolished home of many animals and people around the world and the polluted sea with the oil spill kill everything under the sea. After I thought about the Salford Art Gallery exhibition and wanted to respond to the artist and show people what they are doing to the environment around us so I combined the ideas of the hands with the ideas I got from Kimiyo Mishima to respond to her work and get my point across about climate change and how we need to stop it before its too late.
Decaying trees are something you can see everywhere you go or tree stumps of all the trees cut down by us to use to make paper and other materials. Trees give us oxygen to breath and life without them we would be able to breath yet we don’t take care of them and these day wild fires are taking them all out killing the very thing we need. So i wanted to show this through drawing a half living and decaying drawing of a tree and a completely dead tree. The last picture is of a working man smoking to show how we are killing them as 600 millions trees are cut down each year to produce cigarette machines to roll and pack them yet all they do is harm the body and decrease the years of living.
The earth is our home so I wanted to use show how its going to dye by showing it melting I did this using watercolours to give it a washed look. On the second piece I wanted to use quotes of different people on how the earth is dying and making it hard to read as people don’t care event if fact and statistics are being shown to them.
Flower are a beautiful thing of nature each flower has a different meaning but with plant specie dying maybe one of these flowers could be next.
Studio Space
At the end of the fist semester I think I could have got a lot more work done as I did and experiment more. Although it took me some time at the start thinking about what I wanted to do and how I should start in the end I got to it. I really enjoyed the topic I based my project on as it expresses the way I think and feel about the climate emergence that we have come to face of our own doing and would like to continue developing and researching this as its getting bigger and bigger and everyone is starting to open their eye to this horrible reality.
Venice
On the trip I was able to take picture and experience the effects of climate change in Venice as the sea levels risen and the tides came in and flooded the streets of Venice. This was horrible to see how it affected the people as homes and places were flooded as many people struggled with the water and even took lives. Although this happened the Venice Biennale was amazing as we go to see work from around the world and all the different types of medias and ideas artist have and think.
Extinction Rebellion
This year Extinction Rebellion came to the university to express and show student what is happening around the world and how climate change is getting worse by the minute and how we need to help stop it. Sadly I wasn’t able to participate in the event as I was on the trip to Venice but was able to see the amazing work they made with everyone at the event, this inspired me to keep going and show the world what is happening and how we can do something about it through my art.
Places to go, People to see
This book helped me think of many different places I could take picture of inspiration of my project. I made me think of going to different places around Manchester taking picture of all the landfill and unappealing places caused by climate change and rubbish that we throw onto the streets and compare them to picture from the past to see the transformation. I really like this book as it lets the artist show the beauty of the world and I’d like to show people if we don’t stop harming the planet this will not longer exists physically but in memory and photos.
For the past 3 decade climate change has been betting worse and in the last year those warning have been getting worse and speeding up. When looking into this I found a video made by greenpeace showing us a small amount of damage we create to our planet. This animation shows what is going on under the sea and trying to make people see what we are doing harming the animals in the sea.

Heaton Park
Thinking about nature I decided to take picture of the park as I walked around talking picture I notice that the environment was a lot cleaner then the beach and people would pick up the litter and throw in the the tin. I really like the earthy colour of the leaves on the trees and the sun when it hit the trees making the colour of the leaves all look different. I took many pictures although I’d like to go back at take more as its such a big park their was still many things to see.
The Grundy Museum
I really enjoyed this trip as I was give many ideas of what I could do for my project. Although the piece that stood out to me the most was Tim Noble and Sue Webster a trick of light as they’ve use different pieces of metal the create their own heads on a stick being projected onto the wall. I also light the other nature artworks as it showed their are many other way to use nature as well as drawing. From this I’d like to create more 3D work.
Over the summer I did some photography as i wanted to improve my skills and keep track of all the places I visit, I took picture of nature as its very beautiful and because its something that can’t be made by man. when coming back to university I wanted to use the photos I took to help inspire me create new things. when walking around the beach I noticed people let a lot of litter with is not good for the environment so I came to the decision to collect my own rubbish and make sculptures.
