Brunch Apocalypse!

I recently designed a brunch apocalypse experience with Vox Media and Canon. Had 400 people come though the in one afternoon to have their portrait taken at the perfect moment of chaos!

I was recently a victim of a cycling hit-and-run a few blocks from my home. After an anxious journey through the ER and 12 stitches to my throat, I was discharged. I realized how lucky I am. Just a few inches to either side of my fall and I might not be here today. I since decided to share a series of images of 'Ghost Bikes' I have photographed over my years living and cycling in Brooklyn. These bikes are memorials to fallen riders, I have always found their decaying state quite haunting. They remind everyone who pedals past that we are often just a couple of feet from harm's way....

Power Hungry Show with Caitlin Levin at KWADRAT Gallery Berlin

Most of Americans have a sugar coated sense of where their meat comes from and under what conditions it is raised and slaughtered. And Congress recently passed legislation to keep us even more in the dark—no longer do suppliers have to label where the meat comes from at all. We are blindly content, like a party-goer swinging at a piñata which, in and of itself, is a strange game. We blindly beat a papier-mache animal until it explodes in... candy.... Lawler Watkins along with food artists Henry Hargreaves, Caitlin Levin felt how strange this concept was and decided to illustrate this point by creating a literal piñata. Instead of filling our sugar coated piñata with sugary candies, we disguised pork products to look like yummy candies instead. The initial result was colorful and almost happy, but after destruction became a dark, gory mess.

Waste of Space

Packaging and the display of food has become an illusion an fantasy. We are shown what the brands think we want to consume. Large flashy packages, great value for money filled with a bounty of food. But when you open the package the reality is often far from your expectation.

Chips are a category that has always infuriated me. You hold a puffy packet then when you open it and let the air out you are left with a tiny pile of chips at the bottom. I wanted to investigate this issue deeper to see who were the biggest pushes of expensive air and underwhelming contents while also creating the largest carbon footprint in transportation of the unwanted chip air.

The size of each bag was calculated fresh from the shelf and then the contents removed and vacuumed sealed in another bag to see how the size compared. The results were a loss for the consumer and the environment…
