Okay where's all the Creelby and Byler parallels? Where's Mike's POV? When they hinted at Will getting controlled and becoming a spy again or even a traitor, I really imagined a lot more, at least some more emotional scenes.
We can clearly see what the arcs for the finale are, but is there enough time to close them all properly in just 2h? They have to defeat Vecna which will probably have a big reveal about Henry, that he's not actually bad but controlled by the mind flayer. They have to manage to close or erase the whole wormhole.
I feel like Jancy/Stancy thing is already over - Nancy is her own person and needs to figure herself out on her own. And also the Steve/Dustin thing is resolved I guess...
But the whole Khali arc is just awful and there's gonna be an emotional scene where El makes her final decision. El's arc has only been really about her role as Henry's substitute and her relationships with Khali vs Hopper, and as her relationship with Mike hasn't really been shown, I believe he won't play any part in resolving this arc. Especially when s4 ended with his monologue to her, it can't go the same way in s5 - just him telling her he loves her and her deciding to not sacrifice herself. Hopper has been shown being a lot more invested in that storyline and will definitely play a crucial role there.
And even though Byler didn't have many scenes, I believe that it's really the only way Mike's character and his arc can be resolved. Will is going to fight along the other's and while El has cleary other people to help her make her decision, the only one for him is Mike as he's already gotten support from Jonathan and his mom before. So yes, I believe Mike will be there by Will's side and will finally realize Will's feelings for him and acknowledge them and when we see his POV, finally acknowledge his own feelings as they have been built up over seasons.
The only reason these 3 episodes had only had Byler crumbs is because the finale has a seperate release date and the Duffers decided to wait with the reveal till the end. I don't like how they've handled it, you can feel that the script was written for that exact purpose only. I hate that the mainstream media is keeping us from exploring these relationships and POVs. And obviously the mainstream media only cares about building the suspense and keeping it for as long as possible, only revealing the outcome of the love triangle at the very end...
We can see that the writing isn't the best in the last episodes, so even if Byler happens, it'll probably feel less satisfying than it could with a better build up for the reveal of Mike's feelings.
To be honest, I don't have super high expectations for the finale to be mind blowing and to tie all loose ends perfectly, but I'll be satisfied enough if the execution of all the plot twists and endings is at least a bit thorough and has any purpose.
But if they never show us Mike's POV then why is he even there, what is he doing that is so important? He hasn't really helped much in the last episodes, so how can he be one of the main characters when his story is not shown at all and nothing about him is explained...
I've noticed something interesting. Some said it was just a crazy theory or didn't mean anything, but now that it's been used again in the same circumstances, can't be a coincidence - and we don't believe in coincidences anyway.
'The First I love You' played when Jonathan unproposed to Nancy. The same song that first played when Robin came out to Steve telling him about Tammy, and then when El said 'I love you too' to Mike at the end of s3.
We thought it was about coming out because of the parallels with Robin, but what if it actually is about love. Just not invincible love, the endgame type. That's why the 'love' in the title doesn't have the capital L.
The small 'l' signifies it being a small love, less important.
Robin thought she loved Tammy, but then she realized it was never about her, that she had to accept herself first. But the feelings were there and there was a point in time where they meant something to her.
Nancy and Jonathan genuinely loved each other, but they drifted apart, they're just not suited for each other. But the love was there, just not enough for them to come through with all their problems.
And I believe Mileven is the same. They were shown having a lot of problems (more than Jancy), and even if they'd had genuine feelings for each other, doesn't mean they can work it out. And from what we see in s5, it looks like they're not really romantic with each other. The fact that the song played when El said she loved Mike isn't a coincidence, especially combined with Mike's reaction to it and the kiss.
'The First I love You' signifies the first love, first genuine feelings, with the emphasis on FIRST. It's the first time they all experience emotions like that, but they grow and evolve as people and the love has to grow into Love.
Okay so I actually don't have Byler doubt, even after watching vol. 2. There's just so much to unpack here.
Let's look at facts - the painting has to come back, which means Mike is going to figure out that it had always been him, that he was the guy Will mentioned when coming out and he will confront him about it.
Yes, Will says that Mike's his Tammy, but that's his side of things and we still haven't seen Mike's point of view.
However, you can see Mike thinking during Will's monologue and there's a lot of focus on him. And the last person to be shown after Will finishes is Mike. It's not shown like that for nothing.
And also there's the lack of romance between mileven - when they talk about their happy end Mike mentions the whole party; whenever they talk Mike always brings up Will and helping him is the priority. I still believe the scenes can be read platonically.
And just remember what the Duffers said about the painting - it will be worth the wait. And Noah said we'd be hap- satisfied...
Anyways, let's not forget that most of the rom-coms are short, less than an hour, which means it's fully doable to make Byler happen. All we need is a confrontation from Mike as he realises Will's feelings (and his own) and some flashbacks to recontextualize all their scenes together (especially s4).
Just remember - writers don't do slow burn rejections. And the fact that Will doesn't believe Mike could like him is his POV, but it doesn't confirm anything. The only confirmation we need is Mike doing or saying something - either with Will or El. Only then we can talk about endgame, only when we finally get Mike's stance.
But for now, the love triangle is still unresolved.
