A soft, gentle but satisfied smile to his words as Kenna moves closer to him. “You were,” she agrees pointedly. “and I was worried about you.” she’s not all too good at describing how she feels but, she’s grown to love Bash. She’s completely in this WITH him. as you’re supposed to be in a marriage. But sometimes she still feels as if she’s just.. not enough for him. That it would always be Mary that he longs for. They were very different and yes, they made it work - and somehow it clicks really well together. “Something could’ve happened. And I know that’s what you love and do but.. You are MY HUSBAND Bash, and I need to see you more often. Mary has many soldiers working for her, she can spare someone else to do these things.”

Bash could not but help the awkward smile that left his lips as his wife kept on with her scolding of his recklessness, he certainly had earned the scolding. She was not wrong, he had been almost neglecting her as a husband never should and he could not help but feel shame at that. He should have been giving her far more attention than he had, especially since she was also right that Mary had a number of soldiers that she could spare to do the tasks that he was taking on. No, he had to make this marriage work, “You are right, I promise that I will focus my time more on you, as I should already have been as a husband.”

Mary smiles, the tension within her easing. “then we shall go do that. And perhaps after we can take to the throne room. there are still some people who need to be seen. this time we can do it together.” she tells him. she wanted them to be as one. very soon they would be wed - and that is a partnership that must work above all else. She holds out a hand to him, “ let us go see the wet nurse.”

Bash felt as if the world was brighter every time that Mary smiled at him. "Holding court together will certainly let everyone know that we both care about their grievances." If his father succeeded in getting him legitimized, Bash would be her king as surely as she was his queen. A partnership, started on a far better foundation than that of his father and Catherine. He takes her hand and it feels as of the world's troubles just melt away. "Thank you again, Mary."

Kenna knew returning to court would hardly feel the same, a long time has past since she last saw Bash or her friends. It’s been an even longer time that she’s been at court last. But after hearing about what happened to Lady Lola, she knew Mary needs her now more then ever before. and, perhaps, Kenna needs them too. She might not have been around the last couple of years but Lola was her friend. She knew it would be hard, she just.. didn’t realize how much she’s missed each and every one of them. Looking upon Bash, a hint of a smile had appeared and then the words left her lips. Watching him lay eyes upon her before he spoke. His response made her smile grow slightly, and she nods to his latter words. ‘’It has been.’’ she agrees, she knew she was to fault for that. ‘’Bash–It’s good to see you’re alright.’’

Bash wishes that their reunion was on better circumstances, but it was certainly good to see her again. He would not make illusions that things would immediately be back to how things were before, not after all that had happened, but he supposed that they could start as fresh as they could if she was willing. She was not here for him, however, he knew that. Not with the timing of her return, no, she was here for Mary as his own rather quick return had been. Seeing her smile, though, seeing her smile and he felt like nothing else could make this day better than it was at the moment. “As alright as I can be.” he says, and he cannot help but ask. “How is... the child?” The child that had sparked their argument, a child he held no fault with.

Bash holds Kenna in his arms and rests his head on top of hers, his breath a little ragged still from the journey. “Of course I came back, I will always come back.”

Mary‌

Mary pauses to catch her breath and shakes her head, long hair shifting with the movement. “Nothing - I spoke with Francis,” she explains, “I’ve - I’ve made my decision.” It was one of the hardest ones she’s ever made. Mary loves Francis - there will always be a piece of her that does. But she’s come to love Bash as well and she thinks their pairing - their marriage would be more beneficial…a better match. “Ask me again,” she tells him finally, “to be your wife.”

Bash can hardly believe his ears when she speaks, telling him to ask her to marry him again. She’s chosen me, is all he can think, she has actually chosen me. He could shout his elation at the fact she chose him to the heavens, thanking God for giving him the chance to show her just how much he cared and loved her. Giving him the chance to be a good husband to her, and keeping Francis safe from whatever Nostradamus had seen... “Of course,” he says, dropping to his knee before her once more and his chest feels as if it is about to burst. “Mary, Queen of Scots, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

Bash took a deep breath as Kenna apologized to him. “No, you had every right to yell. You are my wife and I was being reckless.” If he was not careful, it he was too reckless… she would be left widowed. He had already come close to death far too many times since she had come back to Versailles with Mary, many of his near death encounters since they had been married. It was about time, really, for her to scold him.

Mary’s expression softened at his words. She knew this couldn’t be easy for him - losing family was always hard, especially in this type of situation. She glanced over her shoulder and then back at Bash and nodded, her hands slipping through his arm. “Of course. Perhaps we can even visit the baby if it pleases you?” She questions, “Check on her, make sure she’s doing well?”

Bash felt he did not deserve Mary at times such as this, her kindness and understanding were more than he could even hope for. The short time that they had been engaged, when his father set off to petition Rome to name his bastard legitimate and the Dauphin.... It was starting to feel like some sort of dream. The suggestion of visiting the baby, the small little girl that Isobel gave her life to bring into the world, and it felt like his chest was being squeezed. “I would like that.” He would burn the world to keep his cousin’s daughter safe if he had to.

Bash looks up at the sound of a voice he had not heard in a very long time. It felt as if his heart had leapt into his throat when he saw Kenna. He was not sure how he should feel, seeing her again, after how they had parted ways so long ago now... It certainly seemed like a lifetime, though it was less than that.

She’s just come from speaking with Francis - she owed him the truth. Her heart beats heavy against her chest, it aches. She herself cannot believe the choice she’s made and yet her feet carry her to Sebastian’s rooms, more quickly than she can understand. Small palms reach the double doors and she shoves them open without the slightest knock. “Bash, where are you? I must speak with you - it’s urgent.”

Pale eyes flick up at the sound of his door opening and his blood runs cold. Until he hears her voice. His fear that it was Francis having him arrested upon learning that Mary had chosen him instead of his bastard brother. Bash half expects it, to be told that she cannot choose him, that her heart will always belong to Francis... He does not give much sign of this fear, however, when he turns to her and smiles at her with a soft gaze, walking out from behind the armoire he had been starting to choose clothes to pack from. “Here, is something wrong?”

The sound of her heels echo through the palace hallways as she seeks out Sebastian. She hasn’t seen him since they cleaned up the baby and gave her to the wet nurse for safe keeping. His cousin was dead - and she knows this must hurt. But there is still much they have to do before Henry comes back from Rome. She spots a head of dark hair rounding the corner and she quickens her pace to catch up, “Bash,” she calls out hoping to pause his movements. “I’ve been looking for you - we have a few things to tend to this morning…where are you off to?”

Bash looked up at the sound of Mary’s voice and the pain felt just a little more numb. Loosing Isobel had taken a toll on him, leaving him emotionally drained and grief stricken. Growing up he had been close to her, the two never far apart when he went to visit his uncle. He could hardly focus and since there was so much more to do before his father’s return he needed a moment or so to breathe. “I am aware, I was just stepping out for some air... Would you care to join me?”
