@onlyliberty ( Anne Bonny ).
If Anne were to be truly honest with herself, she hadn’t expected a reply. Most women would have taken the letter and burnt it to soot and cinder, never to be seen or thought of again. Whether that’s on the notion of another woman writing about their husband and his wellbeing, or for wanting to see the back of the bastard in the first place. Initially, she’d stared at it. Sitting on the table of the kitchen with the words BRISTOL staring back at her, and how tidily her name was written. Eventually, curiosity had gotten the better of her and the letter and its contents told that niggling little worry in the pit of her stomach to sod off and be at something else.
Mrs Kenway,
Please, call me Anne. Ms. Bonny reminds me far too much of my old coot of a mother-in-law. I promise you he is in as good of health as we can manage when so much time is spent at sea. His mood is rarely sour, and other than the occasional bout of sunburn he remains in one piece. I have seen him writing to you a few times, but whether or not he cannot find the right words to say or if he chickens out, he does think of you often and speaks of you with loving words.
There is no need for thanks, and what you wish to learn of me comes only with questions I will answer as honestly as I can.
Sincerely,
Anne Bonny
Caroline could not stop the smile that now came to her lips when she saw the letter. Hearing the man who delivered it to her say the word Nassau caused her heart to race, wondering what Ms Bonny would tell her of now. The woman felt like she once did when she would sneak out in the night, wondering what her father would think of her finding someone to send letters back and forth to. Not that she much cared for his opinion now a days, not after the day he had tried to sabotage her and Edward.
Anne,
I thank you once more from the bottom of my heart for bringing me news of my husband's well being. I am glad that he thinks to write to me, even if he does not send me letters. I wish that he would, but surely he has reason not to, if only out of uncertainty about how we left it. I wish I could let him know that a letter from him would bring me all the happiness in the world.
Even if you find no need for thanks, I will continue to give it. You mentioned an old coot of a mother in law. Do you not get on with her? I adore my own mother in law, though I can think of reasons why some would not in other marriages. Have you been married a long time?
Sincerely,
Caroline Kenway
