You know what I've always loved about this scene? The way Dean's head snaps to Cas as soon as he says, "I'll go with you."

And he just immediately looks at Castiel completely serious, looking at Cas's eyes like the crazy part is gone and his Cas is back.

i normally hate it when people say stuff like this, but if you didn’t experience whatever that emotion was last night, you simply won’t get it. we can’t explain it to you, im sorry but you had to be there. you either invented a new emotion when you heard about the destiel confession or you’re normal and you’ll never get it.

Its wild to me that half the fandom seems to have forgotten this is TV and not a fanfiction.

Dean was never gonna say it back or leap into Cas's arms. He wanted to tell Cas in purgatory but Cas stopped him because he felt it already, he already knew.

Dean did what Dean was expected to do in that situation, he froze up, trying not to feel it and then he broke down when he was alone.

Anyone expecting anything more than that has apparently forgotten the personality of both characters. This is canon and for these characters it's perfect.

Cas died because that's how Misha wanted it for the final season. His last sacrifice.

another note on jensen's acting: a love confession of this sort is unprecedented for television. like. these two characters have been on a show together for twelve years. most shows don't even last that long, and in the ones that do, characters leave and relationships shift. this is a love that has been built up for over a decade, a love that both dean and cas have repressed for a decade.

dean is finding out that cas, his best friend, the man he's been in love with for years while never imagining it could ever be returned ("how come you always want what you can't have?"), loves him back, all the while with the growing understanding, as cas continues to speak, that this is a goodbye. that cas is going to die. that the man he loves is going to die.

how do you even act that? how do you portray that kind of reaction? it's something that's never been seen before. jensen had nothing to go off of. he just had to dig deep into who dean is, into his feelings, and try to go from there.

and the shock? the confusion? the dawning understanding and the heartbreak? he fucking nailed it.

Its the last season. They are cramming everything they can into this last season. Including destiel being canon, which let me remind y'all, a lot of you wanted.

Me included.

This episode was NOT bad. Anyone saying Dean/Jensen was emotionless during Cas's confession needs to rewatch the episode. He was no where near emotionless. He was soaking it in and when he realized it was Cas saying goodbye, he shut down. He swallowed the lump in his throat and tried to act tough one more time.

As soon as Cas left, he broke down.

Is it what we wanted? No. We wanted a god-damn happy ending for once but let's be honest, this is Supernatural. That was never gonna happen.

We asked for canon destiel, they delivered.

Beggars can't be choosers.

It hurts but it's what they wanted. They came together to write this last season, cast included.

They had a say.

This...is how it was planned out and I accept it.
