I live in a pretty conservative town (theres a truck with two american flags, a confederate flag, and like 8 trump stickers that drives around regularly and i fuckin hate it) and I guess I should’ve seen this coming but i was completely caught off guard when today a boy at my school very vocally shared his opinions that being gay was “messed up” “disgusting” “wrong” and that “people were put on this earth to love people of the opposite gender” when i told him that he can’t just say that, and how that’s not really true AT ALL he continued to say that gay people themselves were “disgusting” “awful” and it was “so messed up” to support them. This is OBVIOUSLY not something that is in any meaning of the word ok to say and WHY would someone say this. Someone else’s sexual orientation DOES NOT AFFECT YOU and YOU DO NOT GET TO HURT SOMEONE BECAUSE OF A FUNDAMENTAL, UNCHANGEABLE PART OF THEMSELVES. THAT IS NOT OKAY. To add to this, I happen to know that one of the girls in the class he was spouting this bullshit in was figuring out her sexual orientation and her place in the LGBTQIA+ (I’m sorry if I left a group out in the acronym, I don’t mean to) community and this HURT HER. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT IS OKAY TO SAY, and i was further disgusted with my town when I learned that many people agreed with him, saying that “homosexuality is a sin” (I firmly believe that jesus was LGBTQIA+ by the way, sooooo) and it was accepted that he had just said these awful, hateful things. I just want anyone from either a conservative town like mine or somewhere else entirely who hears this type of hateful bullshit, THAT’S NOT TRUE. YOU ARE NOT DISGUSTING, WRONG, GROSS, MESSED UP, or ANY VARIATION OF THAT. and if you are someone who believes being LGBTQIA+ is a sin, you are entitled to your opinions, and you can even share them respectfully, BUT DO NOT DO SO IN A WAY THAT WILL HURT PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST TRYING TO EXIST. DO NOT ADD TO ALL THE HATE IN THE WORLD. JUST BE A GOOD FUCKING PERSON.
