Focke-Wulf Fw 44 Stieglitz (Goldfinch) training aircraft (D-EUXO), Karlsruhe airfield in 1936. The aircraft is powered by a Siemens & Halske Sh 14 radial engine, as was common for the vast majority of Fw 44s built. The line-up behind D-EUXO includes at least six other training aircraft, among them two further Fw 44s, two Heinkel He 72 'Kadett' biplanes featuring Argus As 8R engines, and two Bücker Bü 131 'Jungmann' trainers. Vought F-8 Crusader

The Vought F-8 Crusader was one of the most important American fighters of the Vietnam War. It served primarily with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, providing fleet air defence, fighter escort, reconnaissance, and ground-attack capabilities. Nicknamed “The Last Gunfighter”, it achieved the best kill-to-loss ratio of any American fighter in the conflict and helped counter the threat posed by North Vietnamese MiGs. Its combination of speed, agility, and missile armament made it a formidable opponent in air combat.

The Crusader excelled in the demanding environment of air-to-air combat. Although famous for its four 20 mm cannons, it achieved almost all of its victories in Vietnam with Sidewinder missiles. Navy pilots valued its manoeuvrability and acceleration, which enabled skilled crews to successfully engage MiG-17s and MiG-21s. At a time when many American fighters were optimised for missiles and radar interception, the Crusader retained the qualities of a true dogfighter.

Convair YB-60 Strategic Bomber Prototype

A swept wing development of the Convair B-36, and originally called the B-36G, the YB-60 was a competitor with the Boeing B-52 for a US Air Force contract. Suffering handling problems and with a top speed 100mph slower than the B-52 only one of the two planned prototypes were completed before the project was cancelled.
