Pilots of the U.S. 366th Fighter Group pause to study the wreck of a German Panzer V Panther in Normandy on 19 July 1944. T
he group had been flying from the airfield at Saint-Pierre-du-Mont since mid-June, supporting ground forces as the breakout gathered pace.
Scenes like this were common… air power striking hard, armour feeling the results, and aircrew taking a moment on the ground to see what their missions had achieved.

These are pictures of the very first SR-71, the 950. The plane that Robert Gilliland flew on the first flight, December 22, 1964
January 1967, it was burnt up during a test flight of the anti-skid braking system at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California. The main tires blew out, leading to a massive fire that destroyed the airframe. Test pilot Art Peterson was at the controls and safely evacuated.
Because this was an experimental test flight, the RSO seat was empty. The white circle around the nose was used to keep track of it during early flights.

The remains of a Spanish Armada Bell AB-212 ASW helicopter, following a collision against the mast of the Spanish light carrier Dédalo in 1986, after a gush of wind pushed the helicopter against it during landing, killing all 4 crewmen on board.
The mast was repaired but kept a small tilt that followed the ship until her retirement.
New vs old: Peruvian Air Forces current dual fleet of French and Russian fighters, the Dassault Mirage 2000 and Mikoyan MiG-29, vs the past one, the Sukhoi Su-22 and the Dassault Mirage V.
Perú currently has plans to replace both jets with the F-16, with an initial order for 12 already signed, and a further 12 units awaiting funds.
