If you ever want ideas for what season of KR to watch next, I have seen a few and started watching many more so I'd gladly ramble abt them for a while
I heard Ex-Aid is good? Did I get the title right?
Yeah, you got the title right! Kamen Rider Ex-Aid is one of three four KR seasons with dashes in the titles: Super-1, Den-o, Ex-aid, and the currently airing season, Zi-O.
Ex-Aid is a wonderful showfor those who like a little focus on gaming and healthcare practices. The protagonist Emu Hojo is a medical assistant at a hospital, whose secret alter ego happens to be as one of the world’s leading gamers. He is tasked with defeating the Bugster Virus, which could destroy the world if left untreated. This is a gaming virus where the way to treat it is essentially playing a video game. Luckily our intern is a tensai genius gamer da, but what happens if an evil gaming company CEO can no longer ignore this interference? How far will his dedication to saving his patients run???
The suits are neon and eye-catching, the special effects are over-the-top and intense. The cast learned to get along possibly before their characters do lol (the protagonists Don’t get along at first). The Bugsters usually look like mutated meatballs in their primitive forms and are hunted by one or more short gremlins who are the Kamen Riders haha. This is entirely unrelated to the extreme neon color schemes of the Rider protagonists, except for an aesthetic choice made to complement Yuya Takahashi’s writing.
Ex-Aid has two female Riders in the show, yet sidelines them during the endgame battles for misogynistic reasons which I’m still mad about. So, this tempers my impression of the show a bit. But overall if you like music… have the guts to deal with supporting character deaths…this show should be fun. The OST is good, and the insert songs which play during the fights are sung by Toei’s personally sponsored Kamen Rider bands and one former pop singer icon whose band made a comeback right as he joined Ex-Aid’s cast on the big screen…
A few of the villains get redemption arcs. Not all of them but some of them. And if you watch Kamen Sentai Gorider, a web extra which aired while Ex-Aid was airing, at round episode 21, you will have extra reason to cry. Plus, that side series might introduce you to some of the other Kamen Riders in a way that’s not [INSERT AD FOR HEISEI GEN FINAL MOVIE HERE].. over-the-top, I guess. Sometimes the ads are all, “Look at who we brought back!!1” and if I didn’t know most of those Riders I’d just be like, “Go on, tell me who they are. I don’t know this person ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ” But watching YouTube User Redol’s Kamen Rider videos have inspired me to learn a lot of the other ones, even if I haven’t seen their series yet. There’s a few centered around Ex-Aid, which involve late-game plot twists.
Ooh, now I’m really interested!

OOO is one of the best seasons of Kamen Rider, if I were asked which is my favorite season 50% of the time I’d say OOO and the other 50% I’d say Kuuga. I love Ms. Kobayashi’s writing and the actors’ friendship throughout filming truly sells their care for each other. I just haven’t watched the ending to it bc Mr. Toei still hasn’t provided an OOO epilogue in the latest crossover movie (even though he promised to in the ads!) and I feel like this show is too good to be over?? I’m glad you like Yasuko Kobayashi’s lighthearted Rider seasons tho. She truly is one of my favorite Toei screenwriters and her lighthearted seasons with background angst are beautifully executed. I once decorated my birthday cake as one of OOO forms. There’s a video somewhere of him listing off all 119 possible medal combos!

tbh I haven’t watched that much Kamen Rider asides from Den-O and Kabuto so probably Den-O
