That is the child? He knows nothing. Of you, of any of it. And when will you tell him? He is an innocent. As we all were, once.

How do I persuade her it was my fault and not hers? - Herocfriverdane B) work ur magic Brook
“–I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say you’ve tried the step where you just straight up tell her that?”
The mage sighs through her nose and a thoughtful expression knits her brow. “And you explained it, right, you didn’t just expect her to take your word on it?”
She thought about it a little further, then shrugged. “I mean- the only other thing I can say is- when I feel like that and someone tries to tell me it’s not my fault, I want ‘em to acknowledge I still feel like I could’ve done somethin’. Acknowledge I feel useless and guilty and at fault. Acknowledge I feel like I made a mistake. Minds can do backflips tryin’ to justify shit and we can’t stop ‘em, but… knowin’ someone’s there to lean on when I’m hurtin’? Can go a long way to helpin’ me tend my wounds and put it all in the past.”

“All those stories my father used to tell of your bravery. Whenever you visited Highever I would watch your every move with awe.” Still did, to a point, but the childish admiration had been tainted with her own anger, and grief. “I’m almost glad he wasn’t around for any of this.”
“Is there a point to all of this?” He said suddenly, not sharply but with the weariness of one who had felt enough grief not to want it stirred and poked in his chest. “If Bryce and Eleanor were still here I imagine much would have been different. But they are not, an we have a duty to perform.”

“Loghain?”
Of all places this was the most unlikely he expected to see an old… friend? Acquaintence? Friend of the family, even? He didn’t what they were to each other nowadays… But he knew they were once friends. Talbot and his siblings used to play with the Cousland children, and on the rare occasion that Loghain visited the Cousland estate, or that of the Lovells’, he saw the Hero of River Dane and was awestruck.
There had been many accusations that Loghain had full knowledge regarding the attack upon the Couslands by Howe’s men. Talbot’s father had died defending them, and still Talbot couldn’t bring himself to believe it. Knowing it had been a great number of years since the veteran had seen him, he introduces himself as a grown man, “My name is Talbot Lovell. You were a friend of my father’s, Roarke Lovell.”
Growing old meant that a lot of faces changed. A lot of people passed in and out of your life too. It was a good thing Loghain was blessed with such a detailed memory, then, considering the amount of old acquaintances he had left these days.
He recognised the lad almost instantly, remembered his father like it were yesterday. A good man, one who didn’t deserve the fate life gave him. But then, who did?
“I doubt he would consider me a friend any longer... but I remember you. You’ve grown up Talbot, I hope he rest of your family are faring better.”

“The Inquisition has Lady Montilyet to thank for that - diplomacy is not my area of expertise.”
“Hah, neither mine.. but the Antivans do not back an Order for pleasantries. You must have made something worth following.”
LOGHAIN: Nothing about war is right. It’s a force of nature like rain or wind or faith: It simply exists, and we deal with its consequences.

lvkjd;flkgj shitty late night wip of an attempt at a younger loghain in his arms of the river dane outfit
one of my favorite parts of origins is that it gives you not just one hero of ferelden–but an entire cast of heroes. and it shows not only that a hero is never a single person but a group of people, that it takes a village to raise a child and a camp of misfits to build a single legend, but that the definition of a hero itself is dubious. fraught with miscalculations, with cruel decisions, and always with the chance to slip into the darkness. not to die as martyr at the final battle, or to fade into song as having said all the right things, but to step into a mirror and never be found again–or to slip from duty into ambition, from protection to paranoia. to be noble, brave, selfless and strong. to build that history, and to lose it on your way to the future.
dragon age 2 takes that duality and jam-packs it into a smaller space–kirkwall instead of thedas; hero and antihero in the same damn character of anders; hawke’s rise and fall, the climb and the leap, shown over the course of one game–but it’s there in origins already. the setup. the preamble. the legacy loghain offers the warden. his fortunes turned. his terrible, unforgivable mistakes in service to the same throne he might as well have built with his own two hands. a story that’s always about to change.
