"Did you ever think of putting a leash on him? Or a tracking spell?"
"K-Kittens don't like leashes. I c-could never do th-that... though a tracking s-spell sound reasonable... I n-never thought of th-that..."
I think I saw a gray kitten running around near the Great Hall. Would you like help looking?
O-Oh! Thank you, that would be so g-great! I just g-got him for Christmas and I'd h-hate to lose him. He a-answers to C-Copper.
Let Me In
"P-Please, Corwin," the brunette looked up at the boy as her eyes started to water. She didn't know when he had gotten so many secrets, but she could see the way his shoulders sagged with their heavy weight. Hestia wanted so badly to help him, to carry that weight with him and this wasn't the first time she had begged him to let her in. Since the very beginning of their relationship, even in the middle of their friendship, she could always tell that there was something that he was withholding from her.
In the beginning, she was too afraid to say anything, to confront him even in the slightest about what he might be hiding from her, since part of her was convinced that the thing he was hiding from her was the fact that their friendship could have been based on a dare or a prank; their very first interaction had gone so smoothly, and he was so much kinder than she ever thought was possible of a Slytherin, that it made sense to her that she was suspicious.
All thoughts like that, though, had been banished the longer the friendship went on and slowly, ever so slowly, her walls started to come down. She knew that she was in love with him the moment their lips touched for the first time at that Christmas ball, but it would be almost a full year before she would dare to say anything about it, but when they finally came together as she always thought they should have, she knew it had all been worth it.
Now, as she sat on her heels between Corwin's knees, she didn't know if it was worth it anymore. She loved him so much, that hadn't changed, and it never would, but even with all they had shared with each other, he was more of a stranger to her now than when they'd first met.
"C-Corwin!" A sharp exhale passed through her lips and she could feel the tears that had been welling up start to spill over and she wiped angrily at them. "I-I need you to l-let me in, p-please, j-just tell me what's going on," she pleaded. His continued silence was like a knife in her chest and she knew... she knew that she was about to lose him. The only person she had ever loved, that had ever loved her - the only person she had allowed herself to be completely open with - and she was going to lose him.
Though it wasn't physical, she could feel him pushing her further and further away and she tucked her chin down until it touched her chest. It was getting hard to breathe and as she gasped a little, she missed the way his fingers twitched towards her, the only sign he gave that he cared at all at this point. She pushed herself up quickly, her hands bracing against the carpet to propel her up and out of the room - she couldn't stay.
"H-Has anyone seen a sm-small grey kitten? He g-got out of the common r-room."
Peter had a relieved grin on his face. He wasn’t usually one who offered up good advice. Normally he was the one receiving the advice. But essays were where he was proficient in and he rarely needed help unless it was a read through from Remus. That was when he very stressed, though. It was the hands on part of his classes where he needed extra help. “You don’t have to…but I suppose I could use a little extra help? Charms has always been more difficult to me.”
Hestia found Peter's relieved grin charming and her own smile widened an increment. It wasn't often that she was the one that needed advice, but she was glad that Peter had been the one to give it to her, and that it was good advice. At his admission she smiled and scooted closer to the table, and therefore closer to his coursework. "I-I can help with th-that!" She said enthusiastically.
Future Hestia, when her confidence matches her rockin' exterior.
His gaze rose slightly from his book, discovering the stuttering mess that was Hestia Jones. He nodded his head at the napkin stand, hoping he wouldn’t be expected to help her mop up the mess she’d created.
Hestia caught on to where he was nodding and her eyes widened slightly before she gave a short nod herself and reached for the napkins. "Th-Thank you, s-sorry," she said quickly. She took the napkin stand back to her table, the one right behind the Hufflepuff boy; he made her nervous in a way that she hadn't been nervous in since her first year of Hogwarts, but she appreciated the napkins all the same. As soon as the mess was cleaned up, she picked up the container she'd borrowed from the boy and placed it back on his table, albeit hesitantly. "Th-Thank you again. C-Could I buy you a hot ch-chocolate? In gratitude."
"O-Oh, I'd love to help!" Hestia said enthusiastically. It was basic, good advice and she really shouldn't have gotten so excited over it, but it had helped her more than Peter realized, she thought, and she wanted to return the favor. Charms were one of her specialties when it came to the courses at Hogwarts. "I-I'm particularly good at Ch-Charms," she informed him with a wide smile.
Augustus found a quiet corner in Three Broomsticks, and with a steaming cup of spiced mead and a good book, he was all set to enjoy his day away from the castle in peace. That was until someone decided to speak up, annoying him to his very core.
Hestia was by herself. She wasn't by herself because she wanted to be, but rather because there was no one that she thought she could come with, so it was by herself that she sat at a table, sitting by herself and sipping at the butterbeer that she had ordered for herself. She wasn't paying attention while grabbing for her drink and her knuckles bumped into the glass, toppling it over. Butterbeer was everywhere. "B-B-Bloody hell," she muttered, when there were no napkins at her table. Gathering her courage, she got up and went to the nearest table. "E-Excuse me, b-but I've had a spill and I w-was wondering if I could borrow some n-napkins."
"Maybe if you focus less on making the introduction absolutely spectacular. You could always rewrite it. Maybe, just an idea, I guess." He cleared his throat unsure if he should even be offering up advice when he was a person who was so sloppy with his own work. "I usually have to write multiple copies just to get everything right." He shrugged. "It works for me, I guess."
"Th-that actually makes a lot of s-sense," she said gratefully. She was sure that it had crossed her mind maybe once or twice, but hearing someone else say it out loud, that she could always go back and fix the beginning, it helped cement the notion. She smiled. "I u-usually have to do the same. C-Comes with the territory, I th-think. So, Charms? W-Would you like any help? Since you h-helped me and all."
"Ah, that’s the Ravenclaw in you." He felt like perhaps playful banter would help easy the tension between them. Though it was more of an awkward tension. Before he could respond further a laugh appeared from his lips, though quiet since he didn’t want Pince coming around anytime soon. Bloody woman was terrifying. "I wrote a paragraph for it but then I was distracted." Letting his laughter settle, Peter continued. "What about the essay is eluding you though?"
Hestia nodded with a proud smile on her lips. She had always taken a great amount of pride in her house. At his comment she laughed again, though she took his lead and tried to keep her laugh quieter than before. "Th-That sounds rather productive," at his question, she paused. "H-Honestly? The beginning. I th-think that if I just get the introduction done I-I can get through this."
Peter wasn’t the most outgoing of the Gryffindor house but he always considered himself someone who could at least hold a conversation. When it came to the opposite sex however, normally that was a struggle to do. Unless he knew them of course. Hestia was quite a pretty girl, he would be blind not to notice but over the years of being around Sirius and James, Peter had learned to at least keep it minimally together around attractive witches. He nodded at her answer. “I have a habit of waiting until I absolutely have to when it comes to essays.” He gave a sheepish grin across to her.
Hes ended up cracking the first grin she'd had in a long time before she let out a small laugh. That seemed to be the way with a lot of witches and wizards, at least ones that weren't in Ravenclaw, so it wasn't as shocking as it used to be for her, especially after knowing someone like Corwin, who wasn't fond of getting things completed on time. "I u-usually get my essays done pr-pretty early on, but this time, I d-don't know what it was, but I haven't been able to g-get the right words down on paper." She studied him for a moment. "S-So, does that mean you haven't finished the T-Transfiguration essay either?" She was slightly teasing, but she was also curiously if he'd be able to help her out.
He held as still as possible, not wanting to disturb her if she would rather be alone. She looked frustrated; probably how he would feel once he started on his Charms work. He smiled relieved and unfroze to move across from her. Hestia wasn’t someone he knew well—or at all, but she was nice enough when he did interact with her or see her in class. “Thank you.” Placing his things down beside his feet, Peter pulled out a scroll of parchment, then his quill and book. “Is it the Charms one? I’ve been avoiding starting it for a while but I figure since I had nothing else to do that I’d just start it.” He often put things off to the last minute, especially in subjects that he wasn’t all that proficient in.
She was glad when a smile graced his features and he unfroze, feeling bad for giving off the impression that she didn't want anyone to sit with her. "O-Of course," she said with a nod of her head. She truthfully wouldn't deny anyone a chair at her table, but Peter seemed like a nice boy, playful with the pranks, but still nice. She watched with curiosity as he pulled out his supplies and blinked when she realized he had said something else to her. "O-Oh, no, it the Transfiguration one," Hestia shook her head gently. She'd finished the Charms essay days ago, and could probably recite it perfectly on the spot. "I've finished the Ch-Charms one, thankfully." She smiled.
He had been looking for an open place in the library. Unfortunately it seemed everyone was there are the same time. Confused and utterly lost on what to do, Peter decided he might as well begin with finding a seat. Approaching the table with only one Ravenclaw, he was about to sit down—had been mid squat too—when she pushed the book away. He nearly fell over as he tried to decide if he should continue to sit or move away. “I’m sorry…would you mind if I sat? Everywhere else has more people than I could handle at the tables.”
Hestia looked up in surprise, her scowl dropping from her lips almost instantly when she realized that someone else was there. It was true that there were lots of people in the library, but they usually didn't bother with her, nor her with them. She was a little more than just surprised to ssee that the person that was about to sit with her was Peter Pettigrew. He was one of the four marauders of Gryffindor and she would have expected to see him with them. She shook her head at his question. "O-Oh, no, please s-sit. You're more th-than welcome." She reached out and brought her book back to the space in front of her, as to not make it appear like she didn't want comapny. "S-Sorry about that. I've... been having some tr-trouble with this essay," she explained sheepishly.
This was uncommon for the Ravenclaw girl; she was behind on an important assignment, and at this point it didn't seem like there was any way she was going to be able to catch up. She'd done all the research, taken all the notes, but she was having more trouble than she normally did actually getting the words down on parchment and her mental state was suffering for it. Everything had to be perfect. If she couldn't be perfect, then all of her papers, her spells, everything else was going to be perfect. That was that. A delicate hand ran over delicate features in frustration and Hestia pushed the book away from her.
Happens to the best of us. Atleast we don’t have any huge exams to already be worrying about, right?
Y-Yeah, very good point, th-there.
Oh Hestia! No, no, no, completely my fault, I was checked out, and I’m a klutz, even if I wasn’t. Are you alright? No bumps, no bruises? I’m bony enough if you get hit with one of these elbows it can be a bad scene.
"I-I'm alright, no damage d-done here." Hestia took a moment to get ahold of herself and laughed a little at Ted's elbow comment. "I'm s-sure they're not that b-bad."
