the end is nigh
Odasaku looked up at the cloudy sky.
It had been the same one he had seen before his death, but at the same time oh, so different.
He felt very tired. His injuries were just too much to handle, and he wouldn’t be able to keep up this form for much longer. He had enough energy to lie down, but that was about it.
He glances at his body, the one that had served him so well for the past month. With it he had seen the truth about Port City.
Dazai and Chuuya may not have restored it to a status where peace is supreme, but they had at least brought life to it.
The mafia no longer was overbearing, and there was equality among the four organizations.
And it looked like some people actually cared about the city. Hm.
The abandoned constructions site was entered by another figure. A bandaged swathed Dazai, but then again, when was he not swathed in bandages.
“They’re pretty tough, huh?” Dazai began, sitting down next to Odasaku’s lying figure.
Odasaku hummed. “Yeah, marked this body up pretty well I would say.”
Dazai laughed. An open sound, genuine.
Odasaku smiled. He hadn’t heard that in ages.
“I suppose you guys have the city in good hands then.”
Dazai had to laugh again. “Sounds like you’re implying it never was!”
Odasaku had to chuckle again. He shook his head slightly before replying.
“Considering its you, I had to doubt. This little trip back has made me all the more aware that the city is fine, while I feel absolutely god awful about it.”
The lying man sighed. “Sorry for making such a ruckus, though.”
Dazai crinkled his nose. “Its fine, we needed something like this anyways. You know, to toughen them up.”
Odasaku looked at the scars lining his arm from his years of fighting before. Something felt nostalgic about this all. He almost regretted leaving... but having thoughts like that will keep you stuck on this plane forever.
The two of them looked up at the sky once more in comfortable silence.
“I don’t really want you to go again.” Dazai spoke quietly, but with a hidden loudness in his statement.
Odasaku snorted. “Well, we’ll meet again one day.”
Again, they looked up at the sky in silence. The sun set.
By the time the last licks of that red hot flame tucked itself behind a blanket of clouds, Odasaku was gone.
