What makes a good portfolio?
Yesterday the taxi driver that was driving me to the airport picked the phone while he was driving because he receive a whatsapp notification.
That made me think that the silent mode is not enough since makes the notifications visible. The airplane mode cuts any possible communication, so maybe important messages can’t be answered.
So I quickly thought about a Taxi mode, that cuts your social networks but keeps some contact channels available for the key people you want to get in touch. So the communications from the people you select would be presented.
The idea is that instead of limiting the social networks services, you limit the people that can have access to you.
Projected Thought: Interesting article
Called The dribblisation of design on Medium. I woke up and started reading and I realised that is was entirely true, that it verbalised most of my thoughts about superficial and really appealing visual design, that lacks of meaning or structure whatsoever.
Read it if you can.
Projected Thoughts: Decoration and function
Decoration is necessary and functional in the right context. A music poster needs decoration when the intend is to evoke a feeling.
Futile decoration is the one that doesn’t have intend and in consequence becomes luxury or makes the object cheese.
Apparently what makes decoration functional is the intend and that the delivery of that intend is interpreted as useful by the people whom see it.
Projected Thoughts: Re-Framing
There are many situations when is necessary re-contextualising ideas, concepts, mockups, so people would understand where they come from and why are they are “relevant”.
Here are three of them:
Number 1: Your idea sucks and is the end of a clients project. If that happens and you envision that the project can become a flop down the line, you can reframe the idea talking about how innovative the process was, the key learnings, and the cultural impact to the company.
Number 2: We have done it before. Is what you would hear many times, and even so its always hurting your ears. Whatever it is that the company, your colleague or other people has done before, you might have not done it, and even if they had done it in the past, they haven’t done it with your perspective. So reframe the situation with your perspective, and back it up with factual information to diffuse that argument.
Number 3:Something shitty happened to you. Here is when you have to see the the overall picture of the situation of the situation you are at, and think find the positives, including the potencial opportunities that this negative situation can bring you. For instance, being betrayed by a friend, will give you the opportunity to screen better potencial friends you can meet, or not dealing with your friends shit anymore.
In any case reframing is a good tool to turn negatives into positives, mediocre work into solid work and lousy arguments into a closed mouth.
Cheers,
Projected Thoughts: UX designer doing some illustrated journeys
Today after several weeks of long ours and efforts, I find myself doing some production work. Over the las 8 weeks we’ve been working on paper. Is time to digitise sketches.
It takes some though on how to interpret a sketch which function is to suggest an idea as a digital illustration. If that illustration feels refined it can fall into the category of a finished concept. Nothing further from reality.
This illustrations serve as a documentation, but a simple scanning doesn’t do the job. Scanned sketches lack consistency inside the screen when put on a presentation.
So digitising sketched journeys is finding the balance between roughness of a sketch and the neatness of a digital illustration.
My most repeated tracks of 2014. Enjoy!

We design through action. We start Locally. We design with, not for. We design systems, not stuff. We document, share and measure. We build!

I accidentally started a 30 day challenge. Driven by my passion for music I decided to make a song every day for 30 days. The main idea is to create a song and completely erase it from my computer once is exported. These are so far the results of my challenge.

Designing some icons.
Thinking about the existance of we arable tech. This mapping exercise was inspired by an article I've read about the future of wearable tech that didn't reason are with me. In response to that I'm mapping the evolution of clothing and what it means to us, so I can draw a parallel to wearable tech. Is a work in progress. I'll keep you in the loop.
Things I do on Sunday if I'm bored
I was told to make a video and I was given little time to finish it. The first action I took, contrary to what I've normally read about presentation structures or storytelling, was to follow my gut, so I created the first structure in premiere using the footage I had available. That allowed me to validate the structure of the video, the footage, transitions and titles.
Now today I've sketched this to help me capture the feedback and serve me as a guide for the next video edit iteration.
I find interesting to reverse design the process of creating a video. There's an opportunity to capture different approaches that could potencially match different inicial requirements. For instance, short period of time, which will require less thinking of the story and more delivery, whereas a longer period would embrace the craft of the storytelling and videoproduction.
There are not many solo artists like Sampha right now. Playing piano with with his characteristic and unique chord structure. What stands apart of his melodies is his particular voice. Some people call it new-soul future r&b. I called music, because in this period of time there's too much non sense music.
Perfect song to go to sleep.Good night!
