The bizarre double standard with Russia and Israel keeps hitting me and it is super weird. Like, I'm not sure it even counts as a double standard because the circumstances are so different, but if it doesn't then that's because it's actually worse and more ridiculous than that even
Do you ever feel like you're going crazy
The other day I was thinking about how Russia is occupying a larger territory of indigenous land than any other nation-state on earth…and yet there are few Western voices calling for Russia to decolonise (for example) Buryatia, Yakutia, or the lands of the Kalmyks and Nenets and Evenks.
This was the year I fully grasped the extent to which Western anti-colonial activism has never actually been about indigenous sovereignty. It’s about selectively weaponising indigeneity as a geopolitical cudgel, often for antisemitic or otherwise totalitarian ends.
And yeah, thinking about it does feel like going crazy.

hearing anything about the nolan odyssey is so funny. it's like "they cut the extremely important and infamous nobody scene" "the cyclops is a giant puppet that they put in an actual historical cave + gave circe animatronics for her pig transformation instead of cgi" "they dumped plastic skeletons in an environmentally protected location they were not supposed to be in" "they recreated ancient greek instruments in order to have an accurate score" "all of odysseus's agency is basically gone" "anne hathaway actually learned how to weave ancient looms" "the women in this movie are treated like shit" "they actually buried actors alive to get those underworld shots" "did you see what the fuck zendaya was fucking wearing holy shit you can't DO THAT, MA'AM" "what do you mean there was a legitimate epic the musical reference" "NOT A SINGLE FUCKING GREEK WAS CAST IN THIS MOVIE"
like did nolan have two guys standing at his side at all times whispering ideas in his ear and one told the truth and the other told lies and they didnt tell him which was which until they wrapped production cause

Being an Eridian scientist has to be so funny. You train your entire life as a biologist, becoming specialized in your field, probably giving lectures or educational speeches to other Eridians, and then the star savior Rocky comes home with his weird pet dog. Your job is now to cultivate food so the weird dog who is the age of average baby doesn’t die. The dog also saved the stars. Your job is making dog food out of the dog. You also learn that you and the dog have the same job. You are the happiest scientist on Erid.
The dog knows more about how the universe works than anybody else on your planet. The dog understands how relativity works and how the universe began. The dog has access to complex machines that can store and process massive amounts of information, launching your society into a new age of scientific and technological advancement.
You later find out that these machines were originally invented because the dog's species has a memory like a sieve and struggles with primary school level maths.

the backrooms are simply not as scary conceptually if there is Something In Them
the whole reason why they're so unnerving is BECAUSE there's nothing in them!! because they're unrelentingly liminal and lonely and uncomforting. there shouldn't be a monster guy in there chasing you. you should glimpse other humans (?) from a distance but they walk away before you can close the gap and then they're gone. things should run away from YOU. do u get it
"and there was a MONSTERowooowwohhhh" the monster is isolation and banal beige sameness and uncanny valley architecture. you fool. you rube. you're putting a hat on a hat and the second hat is not only unnecessary but it ruins the first hat!!!!!!! "there's a monster in there" great so now it's just another place for a monster to be. ridiculous
"The UN said Israel is committing a genocide!" -links to statement by one UN official-
"Actually the UN has said no such thing." "Well I'm SORRY for not GOING INTO DEPTH on the UN's stance but I don't need them to say it's a genocide to know it is because I can SEE IT WITH MY OWN EYES -"
Just. Either you were repeating the statements of one person because you honestly thought it was the official position of the UN, in which case you're stupid, or more likely you fucking LIED and the little slide you just did isn't going to fool anyone.
...also it seems to me that Israel can EITHER be a theocracy - because the only way that can make anything even vaguely resembling sense is if you think Judaism is solely a religion - OR an ethnostate, which requires acknowledging Judaism as an ethnicity. Claiming both in one post just makes you look stupid.
There's a reason we call ourselves "Schrodinger's Jews"--where we exist in a bimodal wave-function that collapses into whatever is needed for the argument at the moment. That particular person's argument was just a great example of that.
