Almost Home...
I'm sitting dangerously close to a Legal Seafoods test kitchen near my gate at Boston Logan airport. I feel like a giant Lobster roll on no sleep after traveling over 12 hours is not in my best interest, though I am tempted. I am exhausted to the point of head and stomach aches, but otherwise feeling awesome (ha!). I am nervous and excited to come home to new work adventures and a busy summer ahead. This trip gave me a lot of things (10 days off work, massive credit card bills, a suitcase full of dirty laundry), but I'm most grateful for something a bit more intangible - perspective. Geeking out on history and politics of cities, learning so many new insights, made me feel like a better citizen of the world, made me feel like a small but great part of history, a very tiny blip on the radar screen of all that came before and will come after. The whole "you are not that important" thing, but there is something refreshing and magical and freeing about it (rather than a depressing insignificant thing). I certainly don't feel as relaxed as after a beach vacation, but I feel like I learned, I stretched my mind, and by learning I contributed something small but meaningful to the people and places I visited. I hope you enjoyed the photos and commentary.
