Clarification: So while I hyperfixated on Pokemon for YEARS and remember most of them, I know fuck all about anything past Sword n’ Shield. That’s when I officially fell off. So if there’s any ‘mon there that fit better from a later generation… weeeell 🤷♀️
(Also I’m not including full 6 ‘mon teams for the sake of my sanity.)
• Partner pokemon: Corviknight - A dark, foreboding Pokemon. But also highly intelligent, resourceful, and brave. Ballister actually knew this one back when he was just a street urchin and she a little Rookidee (her reckless bravery and penchant for justice is partially what inspired him to become a knight) but at the time he wasn’t old enough to have Pokemon nor was he a noble. Thus, unable to bypass the “must be 10+” rule. Once he started training, however? She became a quick companion and his primary partner.
• Dewott - A Pokemon known for its weapon expertise and a diligence for training. All cadets are required to have a partner. And Queen Valerin gifted him this one (back when he was an Oshawott. Doesn’t evolve into Samurott until after Nimona’s “passing.”) He also has had a rivalry with Ballister’s Corviknight ever since the day they met.
• Houndour/Houndoom - Houndour are actually quite intelligent and work well in teams, and Houndoom are natural leaders. Despite these positive traits, both are rather intimidating. (Couldn’t decide which would be better specifically.) Ballister found this one wandering the streets when he was a teen.
• Absol - Ballister actually met this member of his team the day of the knighting ceremony. He didn’t know it then, but it was foretelling Queen Valerin’s death. Was actually the one to help lead Ballister to safety.
• Partner Pokemon: Aegislash - This particular Aegislash has lived with the Goldenloins for generations, serving as the partner and protector to the youngest living descendant until the next is born. Some say they were Gloreth’s partner 1,000 years back, others theorize that it once was Gloreth herself possessing her own blade.
• Chesnaught - A kind and gentle Pokemon with a proclivity for defense. Though Aegislash was Ambrosius’ partner since he was small, Chesnaught was gifted to him by his parents once he started training. (Though he was a Chespin then.)
• Gallade - A chivalrous, honorable warrior. One that seeks out those in need and aids them in battle. Ambs met his Gallade when he was a boy. Finding a little Ralts who was curious about him and his good, kind, positive nature. Though, after the knighting ceremony, Gallade refused to come out of his Pokeball.
• Braviary - A proud, brave Pokemon known for how fiercely it protects its friends. Even known as “the hero of the skies.” Ambrosius’ Braviary was quite fond of Bal’s Corviknight and she was rather depressed when Bal was on the run. (Oh my god, they were roost-mates~)
• Spritzee - This Pokemon often produces a pleasant aroma. One that changes based on its diet. Ambs found this little guy on his own back when he was young and took him in. He doesn’t send him out for battles, though. Instead letting him hang out in his hair or armor. Also, he’s tweaked his Spritzee’s diet to let out a more soothing scent as a form of aromatherapy. (Todd hates this thing. “I’m a dork. And my Spritzee smells like lavender. 🙄”)
Okay, still gonna include a separate team for funsies. But if I’m thinking about this in-universe? I think Nimona would be a pokemon. (Especially since if she had a team I feel like the loneliness that surrounds her character would be lessened a bit. Also then there’s the question of if she’d still be a shapeshifter or not in this hybrid universe. But idk, maybe I’m overthinking it.)
She’d maybe br more specifically a Ditto, or Zorua/Zoroark. One that’s learned how to talk. (I mean, hey, if a frickin’ Meowth of all things could learn, so could a Ditto or Zorua.) Though I love Ditto I’m leaning towards the latter. Because, if we look at the dex entries…
Yeah, pretty damn familiar. Also for Zoroark…
Anyway, onto an actual team.
• Mimikyu. I mean c’mon. Misunderstood ghost type that hides a secret, terrifying form? Mmhm.
• If she’s not a Pokemon, then she’d definitely have a Zorua/Zoroark literally for the same reasons.
• Scrafty. Especially considering how there’s Pokedex entries about how they have a punk-ish temperament they take good care of their loved ones.
• Obstagoon. It’s literally a rocker badger. Plus with a brief mention of it evolving from multiple fights makes me think of Nims surviving for so long on her own.
• Sharpedo. Shark. Need I say more? Oh, right, AND ITS SHINY IS PINK!!
• Rotom. I tried to avoid any “special” Pokemon. But Rotom’s lil’ shit nature just feels so fitting for Nims.
Queen Valerin: Togekiss - A Pokemon that only appears when there’s no strife. It also shares blessings with those who are pure of heart and respects the rights of others. The Queen’s Togekiss vanished after her death, and stayed gone for a long while. However, it was spotted again after the Director’s death.
Director: Persian - Elegant, sleek, and beautiful, but a Pokemon with a mean temper all the same. I think it suits her perfectly.
Todd: Incineroar - Hotheaded, violent, belligerent, and willing to fight hard and dirty. It’s a perfect fit. (And I can’t help but Todd’s Pokemon + Amb’s n’ Bal’s were CONSTANTLY fighting.) That being said, one entry mentions Incineroar helping smaller Pokemon which feels fitting with the hint of Todd’s redemption at the end of the movie.
