I think I’ll put my secrets here.
Not super secrets.
Just the not-so-blasted parts of me.
The writing projects.
Random pictures.
Random things I’ve found on the Internet and would like to hold onto.
For myself, mostly.
For cataloging. For processing.
Keeping it all in one place.
A place that feels familiar.
Feels faster than my journal and more sacred than a Word Docs.
I’m getting excited.
it’s weird how I thought these EXACT things tonight, almost 2 years later.
But is permission necessary to probe at the central assumptions of human life? When else are we meant to ask: What is the point of work? What makes a good relationship? How are we to raise children? What should we travel for? What should our nations be? We should be braver and more demanding about the conversations we fall into. Rather than seeing successful examples as a gift, we should strive to become their regular engineers and cultivators.

We get scared of opening our souls because we falsely exaggerate the difference between ourselves and others. We display only our strengths, vaunt only our successes, lay out only our conventional proposals – and bore others as a result because it is in the revelation of our weaknesses, in the display of our fragilities, in the confession of our wilder fantasies that we grow interesting and likeable. It is almost impossible to be bored when a person tells you sincerely what they have failed at or who has humiliated them, what they long for and when they have been at their craziest.

I am
28 years, 11 months, 3 weeks, and 2 days old.
I forgot the year count today. Probably because for a few months, I’ve been saying I’m almost 28. And then sighing. Maybe it’s better to just say your actual age. For a number of reasons.
goodness, it’s so lovely
A big secret is that you can bend the world to your will a surprising percentage of the time—most people don’t even try, and just accept that things are the way that they are. People have an enormous capacity to make things happen. A combination of self-doubt, giving up too early, and not pushing hard enough prevents most people from ever reaching anywhere near their potential. Ask for what you want. You usually won’t get it, and often the rejection will be painful. But when this works, it works surprisingly well. Almost always, the people who say “I am going to keep going until this works, and no matter what the challenges are I’m going to figure them out”, and mean it, go on to succeed. They are persistent long enough to give themselves a chance for luck to go their way.

A little early to give up on him, don’t you think? You haven’t even given him the chance to be himself yet.
