Growing up, Belly had always wanted a dog. She’s even at times thought about becoming a vet.
But, she can’t have one, the apartment that she and Jere were living in didn’t allow pets and it made Belly sad every time she would walk past pet stores, and watch as other people walked their dogs in the park.
Right at this very moment her eyes were fixated on a puppy. She was a Golden Retriever. She was standing on her back legs and her front paws were on the window, her tail wagging. Like she wanted Belly to pick her up and take her home with her.
Belly couldn’t do that. Between the apartment and not knowing if Jere wanted a dog, confirmed everything she had been dreading… She couldn’t get the dog.
“Hey, Bells. What are you looking at?” Jeremiah approached, a Dunk and Donuts coffee in his hand.
“Oh, nothing. It’s nothing.” She replied, obviously lying.
“Bells, that dog is cute.”
“I know. Hey, we should probably get back. We don’t need anything else.”
“Okay…” he said. Belly could tell that he didn’t believe her.
The next morning Belly was surprised to see that Jeremiah wasn’t at home. He was never up before her unless he absolutely had to be. She wondered where he was.
She pulled out her phone and saw that he had texted, ‘good morning bells. had to run a quick errand, be back later. love u’ there was a heart emoji, he always sent her a heart emoji.
Assuming he went to go get coffee she decided to get ready and watch tv in the living room. She was in the middle of Gilmore Girls when Jere walked in. She paused the tv.
“Hey Jere. You’re back—” Belly stopped mid-sentence when she saw that her boyfriend was holding the very same puppy she saw in the window yesterday.
“I got this for you. I saw you staring at her yesterday and I know you’ve always wanted a dog, so… here she is.”
“And don’t worry about her staying here, I’ve already talked to the LandLord and we worked something out and he agreed to let Millie stay. It took a lot of persuading—”
“Yeah. It was, um, the name of my mom’s first dog. I thought that it was fitting that we named her Millie.”
I smiled, “Millie is perfect.”
Belly carefully grabbed the puppy, and kissed her on the head. She looked up at Jere, who was admiring the scene.
“I love you Jere.” She kissed him.
