too much “this character did something bad” talking about fictional characters like they’re autonomous entities and not enough “why have the writers made this character do the bad thing and how does it contribute to the overall plot and themes?”
we’re also absolutely barren of “does this bad thing the character did form a pattern in the story that could indicate the writers’ beliefs and/or ideologies?”
tbh i wish moldy got worse. she deserved to go down like azula and i love her for that
Oh I agree with that honestly, Moldy would've been really interesting if she got worse as well!! However they chose to make her improve herself and in a way that didn't really make sense. The post was mostly about what they COULD'VE done. Moldy and Circle could've been interesting if Moldy got worse as well mm ... I'm really glad Moldy suffers consequences to her actions. Her death is caused by her OWN decision and not anyone else's, it's great.

SAME SAME!!! Another way to approach Charlotte's character would be to make her get worse instead of better, maybe slowly treating the contestants the way she treated Parker the more stressed she got over the situation. I would've preferred that or her improving differently much more than what happened in canon. If Charlotte is going to be redeemed, I feel she has to earn this, and if she actively makes things worse for herself the narrative should rightfully punish her for that. It sucks we got a middle ground where nothing clear is done with her character instead. Man, if only she learned a good lesson from this hellish competition. That would've made her arc matter.

Bryce is so great he's underrated and arguably underwritten I wish he was portrayed on an equal level to Liam,, as his own person who didn't have to give in to whatever Liam wanted to do,,,,, I want Liam to apologize to him and then. BRYCE Bryce the guy. He could’ve been absolutely fantastic and I think him between episode 10 and 13 was him at his peak, I loved watching him there, he worked so well. He definitely deserves apologies from Liam and Airy, but I do kinda think Liam’s apology would be like a youtuber’s. I think Bryce is neat I like the guy.
Charlotte, Circle w/ a mole, and the missed potential
Charlotte and Circle w/ a mole are both characters who have incredibly interesting setups with no proper resolution. Here I’ll be discussing them both individually, together, then the potential, with some side criticisms toward the show as well. The relevancy of those notes are varied, however there’s not a better place to put them. Anyway, let’s get started.
Charlotte.
Charlotte is a well-written manipulative character, whose issues revolve around her need to be independent. She refuses to rely on anyone and if someone attempts to help her, she interprets as an attack on herself. This isn’t actually true, but it is in her mind. She’s so against relying on other people, that she’s fine with suffering for longer and/or potentially dying instead of being dependent on them. A fantastic setup for a character.
Then, in episode 16, Charlotte is shown to have developed after isolating herself for months on end. She states that she can’t trust herself with spending the money properly and now she doesn’t want to be in the competition. This was all just self reflection, and she doesn’t make any actual change to herself to be better. Charlotte just decided to the avoid the issue entirely, instead of trying to improve, which is arguably worse than not knowing that it is a problem. She chooses not to fix that aspect of herself and decides it was an inherent trait, so she avoids it. She doesn’t change as a person.
This isn’t even her main flaw. Charlotte has problems with independence, and though her bad financial decision making IS still a flaw, it isn’t a defining trait. This change/self reflection doesn’t do much for her character because of that. Charlotte doesn’t even get a chance to be better either, as she most likely is going to die before she can be sent back home, or at best her financial situation will be completely ruined. She cannot recover, and so her change in episode 16 has no purpose and only has her lose her motivation, which makes her less interesting.
I don’t know if it was the writers’ intention to aim for her developing as a person, or only self reflection about one action. If it’s the former, then there would be a much better way to do this, by forcing her to rely on other people continuously. I am getting ahead of myself however, so let’s move on.
Unrelated note: Amelia. The writers establish that Amelia isn’t sure whether or not she wants to go home or not, which makes sense with previous developments in episode 8, as she’s shown to be the leader of the plane and actually relaxed for the first time in a while. However, in episode 18, they contradict this, showing her sobbing at being stuck there for an extended period of time. Tray and Whippy Creamy are also notably inanimate, implying that they lost their will to continue on despite being able to live here happily for 7 months, which implies that Amelia breaking was the end. But this doesn’t make sense with episode 8 and vaguely episode 16. Speaking of episode 16, let’s move on to Circle, as that is the episode he got eliminated in.
Circle w/ a mole.
Circle w/ a mole has an entire other show of setup to his character, and it makes him really interesting, especially since it affects his personality and opinion over the competition. He unfortunately didn’t have much time to shine, and is said to have been eliminated during episode 16, which is mentioned earlier. Circle only has a decent role in 2 episodes, episode 3 and episode 5. That’s a total of two episode for a character with an impressive amount of buildup. The writers spent so much time on someone that they barely use in the show, but I suppose that’s typical of them. On the other hand, most of his screen time was used to establish his dynamic with Charlotte, which brings us to the third point.
Their relationship.
In the first episode Circle shows up in, Charlotte is the first one to interact with him, and she convinces him to stay in the competition and be on her team, a great setup. It shows that they have similar motivations, which contributes to both of their characters in an interesting way.
Afterward, Circle rants about Battle for Circle to Charlotte, and the interesting thing is that Charlotte is actually paying attention to Circle’s rambling. She’s making sure she understands what’s going on and asks which Circle Circle w/ a mole is referring to. She’s engaged with his story and that sets up the fact that she cares.
In episode 5, Charlotte isn’t particularly interested in talking about herself, but Circle successfully convinces her to do so twice in a row, with the others on the team not having as much luck. She is willing to be open around Circle, and that is a really fascinating detail, but that is the end. From here on out, no one on Charlotte’s team gets much screen time, and so their relationship doesn’t further either.
This is really disappointing outcome for the two of them, and Circle later being eliminated feels like salt on that wound. The writers had a lot of potential with this setup, and it could help with Charlotte’s development, so, let’s go on to the final point.
The potential.
This is all going to be my hypothetical idea for what their friendship could’ve been used for, so whatever your interpretation of them is is just fine. If anything, I’ll be interested in what you could come up with, feel free to describe it.
Anyway, I believe that Circle could’ve been the person that Charlotte could’ve had to rely on. They have been shown to have a positive relationship in the show, so it wouldn’t be out of the question, especially since Charlotte has a blank slate on the plane she can use to improve. So, as Charlotte begins to rely on people more and more, she becomes willing to rely on others. This would actually make her better as a person, and it’s not like she’d have to get it all resolved at once. Charlotte could simply get on the right path because of Circle, which would be just fine.
Circle would also get more development. His wants and desires would be explored, because he ends up getting more screen time because of this !! It’d develop his personality and he’d get to see what he enjoys, and having an actual relationship with people would help with that goal.
Both of them would become better characters and better people because of each other, and I think that would be a great way to use the both of them. I may not have many specific ideas for this, but it has a lot of potential, and I wish the writers used it.

In terms of my ONE thoughts, IIIIIthink most of them boil down to Cheesy is a great director, and a lot of people confuse that for him being a great show writer as well.
