seriously why do i see people say stuff like
"trans and nonbinary people"?
at the most generous guess i can see that people think you have to 'transition' to be trans. so if you dont take hormones or change your name and just keep living ur life with a different label, then you dont consider yourself trans?
but at a less generous interpretation, you think nonbinary genders are less valid than binary genders. being boy or girl is default while agender or genderfluid are other.
or do you think people were raised as nonbinary by their parents?? do you think when they filled out medical forms they chose the "no" gender and used exclusively gender neutral bathrooms in school?
i seriously dont get it. especially when its coming from people who seem to be trans allies.
remember when ppl kept saying trans* where the asterisk was put in to include nonbinary genders, but then everyone was like wait this is obsolete since being transgender INHERENTLY includes nb's, and then it took like 2 days for the entire world to completely forget why they stopped using the asterisk and now its "transgender and nonbinary" again lmao
even worse is the way that recently its become more and more mainstream for binary trans ppl to fully exclude nonbinary people from their movements and groups. like ive seen popular hot takes from well known binary trans folks saying its transphobic to use "they" as a default neutral pronoun, and that everyone should ASSUME other peoples gender and use she or he depending on what they look like 🙃
it sure is fun having "trans allies" tell us we're dramatic for thinking its a big deal to be trampled on and that we should be happy that at least binary trans ppl get taken seriously. its extra fun when we bring this shit up and get called transphobic and callout culture and whatnot. as if our gender identities are less concrete and less monumental and less important
The reason 'trans and nonbinary' is traditionally separated (more completely, 'trans, nonbinary, and agender') is because not all nonbinary people identify as trans. Not all agender people identify as trans.
And it is kind of wild to see that idea mocked here so cruelly, as if it's a concept made up by, idk, transphobes? I don't think anyone who identified outside the gender binary but doesn't identify as transgender should feel the need to justify their identity to you, but since you asked (so very aggressively), yes, I do think there are people who do not have an 'M' or an 'F' on their birth certificate - because there are. I do think there are people who were raised outside the gender binary - because there are. I know some of these people. They were trans/nonbinary community elders to me when I was young.
The fact that you, personally, have only interacted with nonbinary people who consider themselves to be trans does not mean you can kick the rest out of the nonbinary community.
"trans" refers to anyone who is not cis.
"cis" refers to anyone who is not trans.
it really doesn't matter if a nonbinary person doesnt identity as trans. they are trans. thats what the word means.
there is not some third option between cis and trans.
again, i think people get hung up on the transition part, and think because they dont want surgery or hormones, they can't call themselves trans. either that or the trans label seems unappealing the same way "bisexual" became associated with transphobia or shallowness by biphobes.
also, agender is nonbinary? why are referring to it as if its separate from trans and nonbinary when its both.
"It doesn't matter if an AFAB person identifies as a man. They're female. That's what the word means."
"There is not some third option between man and woman."
I'm not really responding for your benefit because at this point it's obvious you're either trolling or caught up in some kind of TIRF/transmedicalist nonsense, but there are a lot of people uncritically reblogging this post who I want to hear your words openly.
Yes, there are many, many options between (and beyond, and unrelated to) 'cis' and 'trans' and those options have existed for much longer than you've been alive. If you're viewing the world on a cis vs. trans binary, you're going to have a rough time interacting with the intersex community, both in the spaces where we intersect with traditional trans definitions and where we do not. You're going to have a really rough time if you venture outside of the white, western lgbt community. Especially if you insist on treating people who come from outside your personal experience as if they are too ignorant to know what their labels 'really' mean or what they, themselves 'really' are.
Anyway - I'm deleting this app, so you can successfully chalk up one, I guess, nonbinary-phobic nonbinary person that you've excised from your personal community.
