i don't care if others think it's silly or not that deep guys i love that snape stans actually read that books and memorized every one of his appearances, i love how we write essays upon essays about him, i love that we analyse him on a deeper level, i love that we acknowledge his flaws and complexities, and i love that we also treat other characters (think lily or remus) that way. i love that we can appreciate characters even when they are morally grey instead of fitting either in a good or evil box.

i think that's one of my issues with the marauders fandom (as in, why i'm not part of it, there's nothing wrong with it it's just not for me!). it feels so superficial sometimes, like it's all just about aesthetics and pinterest boards and character playlists. every character needs a fancast that looks like a conventionally attractive model or actor. which is fun and all but then the flaws that actually made them interesting are forgotten about or ignored, and instead they get a load of trauma porn as their fanon backstories or are simply twinkified for the sake of a ship that becomes their entire personality. aren't the canon characters much more interesting...?

might be an unpopular opinion amongst the slytherin crowd but…… draco stans are so fucking insufferable. draco sucks!! idc!! he is a bully & has a shit storyline & redemption arc!! idc idc idc! i do not care that he was a child. so was james. you cannot go around shitting on james & then defend draco like he’s the loyl. they are both sucky (although i will admit i do prefer draco, because he never sexually assaulted anybody) & it’s actually more often than not the crowd that loves the marauders that also loves draco… i’m just pointing this out to my fellow anti-marauder folk that we cannot be hypocritical like the snaters & james-lovers are being.

the one thing that will always make me furious is the way marauders fans downplay what happened in snape's worst memory. they had snape in the air, in front of a whole crowd, and exposed his underwear to everyone obviously against his will, then threatened to remove that too - which we have no reason to presume they didn't do. james was riled up and being cheered on, there was nobody there to stop him, no teachers nearby and we all know that remus wasn't going to say anything even though he was a prefect.

that is a form of sexual harassment, even if the underwear did stay on, and regardless of intention. and if you still can't see it, imagine how it would look if snape had been a girl. not a prank or joke or argument. call it what it actually was!

there is just simply no excuse for it either. snape was not a death eater, he hadn't done anything to them. he was a child simply sitting under a tree and minding his own business. and i truly believe that this is part of why it was his worst memory - yes, partially because he lost lily in this scene, but that's not the only reason. what happened here could leave anyone traumatised. he did not deserve that, in fact nobody does. this scene already disgusted me the first time i read the books way before i even liked snape. hell, it disgusted harry too. if harry, who has every right to hate snape, can see that it was horrible and call out sirius and remus who he loves so much, why can't you?

one more thing - and i can't believe this has to be said, but - 'i am fine with sexual harrassment (etc.) if it happens to somebody i personally dislike' is a really dangerous and weird mindset to have, actually! so maybe think about that a bit longer...

okay this is coming from someone who completely reasonates with the way harry acts in ootp: his anger towards snape was largely because he had no one else to blame.

harry had every right to be mad. he had every right to act out every time he did, and anyone who calls him annoying or unreasonable really doesn’t understand that this is a fifteen year old boy, experiencing some beyond insane stuff, having faced voldemort himself, the strong as hell wizard who’s determined to kill him & has been trying to kill him ever since he was a newborn– and nobody believes him when he says he’s experiencing insane shit, everyone around him is telling him he’s a batshit crazy liar. his emotions & his behavior are completely reasonable. he’s even way too calm and way too graceful.

his godfather died. the only person he had who was his family, the person he would put his life to line for, has been killed by voldemort’s most devoted, most insane, follower. he is angry. he is angry and dumbledore (i’m not blaming dumbledore, i’m looking from harry’s pov) is seemingly so calm & nonchalant, while his entire world is breaking down. voldemort took over his body for a bit. dumbledore seems so emotionless, so care-free. harry breaks down.

harry has every right to be angry at everyone. at the whole world. but even when his anger tones down a bit, when his anger transforms more into grief & sadness, trying to search for sirius everywhere– he’s still super angry at snape. he blames snape for everything. he says he will never forgive snape; even though snape immediately informed the order after harry told him about sirius, and gave umbridge false veritaserum. he is mad at snape because he ceased giving him occlumency lessons– and he has every right to be. snape was beyond immature for that. i understand harry’s anger. if he had learned occlumency, sirius perhaps would never have to die that way. but harry’s anger is mostly directed at snape at the end of ootp, and he doesn’t trust him. he doesn’t trust him & even goes to think that snape wanted his mind to be more accessible to voldemort.

i don’t blame harry for any of his behaviors in ootp. but in the end, he places all his anger at the “mean teacher”. the person who was protecting him all along. kind of sad. but still reasonable.

Honestly, Snape’s behaviour gets blown so out of proportion. Because other than verbal barbs and once threatening a toad, Snape didn’t really do anything. He didn’t put students in deliberate danger, didn’t hex students, didn’t assault anyone. Snape gives students detention and they have to clean. McGonagall gives students detention and they wind up in the Forbidden Forest!

One time, he threw a jar at Harry after Harry *checks notes* oh yeah, looked into Snape’s memories without permission and witnessed his worst memory of being assaulted.

So no, I don’t want to hear the “he bullied students” argument. When in context, he was no worse than any other teacher and far worse had been done to him.

It's pathetic people call Snape's resentment a 'high school grudge'. Especially when his former bully shows little to no remorse for bullying him. And when Snape is helping said loser live a normal life by brewing the wolfsbane potion. For free since I don't see any evidence Remus is paying Snape for his time and labor.

Severus found out Remus was a werewolf when he was a teenager. In all those years, he never told anyone about Remus’s condition. In PoA, he was silent while Remus continued to insult and humiliate him. During this time, he was also making Remus vital medication to enable him to live that normal life. He only spoke up after Remus neglected to take said medication and endangered the lives of the children.

no– lily evans was not a good friend to snape. she witnessed that he was being bullied, and you can say however much you want that “she tried to help” & “tried to intervene” it will never ever make sense to me why she didn’t actually do something more meaningful. ron goes out of his way to defend hermione whenever draco says something, and the trio, while obviously having friendship struggles to deal with through the series, signify what true friendship should be like. they are there for each other, they defend each other against bullying– snape didn’t have such a friend, nor a strong support network. ever. he was bullied, and all marauders fans can say is, “well james saved his life!” ?? did you people even read the books carefully, or did you just skim it over? just because one bully cowarded out & drew the line at literal murder doesn’t mean that he’s now some amazing hero. severus snape was mistreated by his muggle father, never really knew what true friendship was, and then followed the dark path. the marauders are at fault that he made friends with the wrong people. he made some terrible mistakes, he was in general a morally grey character; but what you cannot deny is that he was a good person with a good heart. he stayed loyal to dumbledore till the end, and he did genuinely care about & love lily despite her betrayal.

“but he insulted lily!” yes. he did. i’m not going to deny that snape threw a purist slur at lily, however, she went on to marry someone who did considerably way worse things. she went on to marry someone who bullied, assaulted, and planned to murder her childhood best friend. of course, what snape went through doesn’t excuse the way he later on treats his students– this, too, is important, while analyzing the character of severus snape. he bullied his students, and was in general a mean teacher; but he did care about his students, and this is shown multiple times throughout all seven books. he not only protects harry because of his love for lily, he does genuinely eventually develop some sense of affection towards him, he makes sure his students pass their OWLs, he gets concerned whenever he is informed his students could be in danger. he is a broken & damaged character, but ultimately has a righteous heart.

in good there is evil. in evil there is good.
