"Agora que vén a guerra
Levades aos homes todos
Lévanme ó meu queridiño
Lévanme a vista dos ollos
Alá no medio do mar
Suspiraba unha balea
Entre suspiros decía
Quen ten amores ten pena
Debaixo do lavadoiro
Onde maría lavaba
Había un anel de ouro
E unha mazá colorada
Baixo o piñeiro verde
Ten o meu amante a cama
E cando o amante durme
O piñeiro baixa a rama"

This oil painting, titled "The Sound of the Night," was created by American artist Richard Schmid in 2004.
Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries:
"It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones.
"There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion.
"If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice!
"Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity."
“Think not of the books you’ve bought as a ‘to be read’ pile. Instead, think of your bookcase as a wine cellar. You collect books to be read at the right time, the right place, and the right mood.”

Just as cultures are linked by shared themes, a common history and customs, so we – each separately and all together – are linked by the common quality of the natural world: rivers, oceans, our environment, its forests and mountains. And stars. Man has gazed up at the stars since the birth of humanity. This is the origin of astrology, astronomy, the measurement of the seasons and the first steps of science. I believe there is no single experience in the world which tells us more than the vastness of space, and the innumerable heavenly bodies. And thus the stars form a bond between us all – regardless of country, nationality, regardless even of time.

You'd know just what to give
