I imagine both and her father have been working towards subtly steering the kingdom towards mage liberation and to see all of that work undone by Sylas? Delphine is gutted. But not only that, she would stop her magic all together, which negatively impacts her physically.

She's an elementalist. It's impossible for her to deny what she is because if she does not use her powers it slowly starts to kill her. But J4 is regrettably too volatile in his grief for her to risk anything.
