ACOSF THEORY TIME :

Merrill is being possessed / manipulated by Koschei

( or is maybe in alliance with him )

In my reread, these two passages stood out so much :

In chapter seven, where Vassa is talking about how Koschei manipulated the queens into betraying and selling her to him. Through ‘whispers on the winds’ :

This is notable because in chapter twenty-nine, Merrill mentions that the ‘wind whispers’ to her, and that she knows exactly who Nesta is and what she has done :

We also learn that she is descended from Rabath, Lord of the Western Winds and also that she holds some magical sway over wind, interesting considering that this is the method which Koschei uses to manipulate the queens :

Some other interesting factors :

We can establish that Merrill will be of at least some importance in the next few books solely because of how much time sjm spends discussing her beauty. It’s a well established and well founded fan theory that whenever sjm describes a character as beautiful, they will be a significant - and Merrill’s beauty is said to rival even Mors !!!

^ When she confronts Nesta regarding the swap of books, she calls her ‘girl’. The only other character to call Nesta ‘girl’ is Amren - who is an ancient entity from a different world. Amren is estimated to be 15,000 years old. This similarity suggests to me that there is either more to Merrill than meets the eye, and that she is older than we are led to believe, or that it is Koschei talking through Merrill. As an ancient and powerful death god, this belittling attitude would be more believable coming from him, than coming from ( what we believe is ) a high fae.

^ When Merril catches Nestas eye in the evening service, they settle with ‘hatred’. This seems ridiculous and extremely petty for someone who replaced a book of yours and then set you down a peg when you confronted her about it... there’s definitely something else there.

If she is working in alliance with Koschei - or if perhaps he is possessing her - it would make sense that she is placed in the night court, where she can act as a spy and use the vast library for information. She works closely with Gwyn, who is Nestas close friend and undoubtedly gathers information about Nesta through her. And we know that Gwyn went to Merrill for information regarding the death trove...

I just know that there is more to Merrill than meets the eye, and I’m kind of hoping that she is just being manipulated by Koschei because I would so love for her to be the main scribe and historian for this new legion of Valkyrie warriors.

This is a passage in war and ruin where elain is discussing Koschei, and how he has ‘others’ whom he keeps at the lake whose feathers are ‘as white as snow’ !!!

Back to silver flames, where Merrills hair is described as... you guessed it... ‘white as fresh snow’ !!!!!

i generally try to keep my complaints to myself but every time i look in the acotar tag(s) and see ai slop i grow more and more disgusted

i hate how prevalent it is, especially in book fandoms, to use ai to depict characters as if there aren't hundreds of artists drawing characters for free, or as if you can't commission an artist to draw a specific character in a specific way, or as if you can't learn how to draw yourself and make the art you want to see

it's so disheartening to see how many people in these fandoms don't care about or respect artists

if you want a cover for your fanfiction, you can just ask to use someone's fanart with credit instead of generating the most basic "conventionally attractive" men who all look exactly the same specifically so that you can go out of your way to not support the other people in your fandom

and if you use ai for a fic i automatically don't trust that you wrote the story yourself either, so you're also dismissing actual writers who dedicate their precious time to writing real fanfiction with real intrigue -- which you could also learn to do, or even request a specific plot from a writer who takes requests

i just don't understand who these ai posts are for

I LOVE it when artists depict a very clear dynamic between lovers, so much so that I could literally ship that couple without even knowing them. I hope I’ve managed to draw enough of the kind of dynamic I envision for Elucien. It’s not the full scope of what I imagine them to be like, but certainly a chunk of it!

And also… I heard that the people who voice Elain and Lucien both ship Elucien. If that’s true, I‘m gonna scream. You know how the voice actor of Zuko made a fan audio in which Zuko confesses his love for Katara? I need something like this for Elucien 😭

King of Hybern & his people design.

What Feyre’s story needs is a remarkable villain. I’ve thought about designing them as monstrous-looking creatures (gargoyle & giant like) instead of the average, extremely beautiful High Fae. The creatures in this land are purely evil: they hunt, rape, and slaughter for sport. Most of them -kind of- don’t have a mind of their own. They require a master to command them.

The King is the only one who appears somewhat normal-looking, due to the fact that he was once a human general who fought alongside the Fae to fight off the same creatures he now commands. He was betrayed by the Fae (specifically the High Lords) and turned into… that. He was banished to that land, where he adjusted over the years and eventually rose to power as King. Now, he seeks to destroy the magic of Prythian so that no High Lords will ever rule again.

- Marcellus (the King‘s unofficial name) isn’t related to Brannagh or Dagdan, though they are his second and third in command. He surrounds himself with those who have a better comprehension and understanding level than most of them (including the ones he made his generals).

- Marcellus and Jurian used to be friends. You can just imagine the reunion when the king revived Jurian!

- He has tried to turn back to his human self numerous times. Even when he gets burned from the inside out in the Cauldron, he stays the same.

- The Swordfighter guy (4th sketch) is inspired by the last boss 💕

Overall, this way the villain could have a connection to not just Feyre, but Nesta and Elain too.

However, I’m not going to use the term “Hybern” to describe the land of these cruel people. It’s very clear that Hybern is suppose to represent Ireland (racist much?), so I’ll do my best to remove anything Irish-related from that land. I’m thinking of calling it something like the “Land of the Giants” or something similar. I’d appreciate it if you could recommend some well-fitting names. I’ve already thought of a few terms to refer to these creatures, like “Garganths” and “Wyrdgards.”

Feyre Archeron, but as Feyre Cursebreaker instead of the High Lady. What if she had to visit the courts to understand and master her powers? Since the whole High King crap didn’t work the first time, Feyre could instead take on the role of keeping peace and balance between the courts, as well as saving and protecting Prythian’s magic (Atla reference). Have Tamlin’s paranoia come true about people coming after her because she possesses the High Lords’ magic. It would add layers of tension and danger to her journey.

It would also be interesting to see each court as equally powerful and none can survive without the others. Imagine the dynamic between Rhysand vs Tamlin, with the Spring Court being such a vital core of Prythian- interconnected with and as necessary as the Night Court.

Feysand, but with Rhys as a morally gray character who cares only about his own gain. The sole reason he kept Feyre alive Under the Mountain was because she was the key to his freedom and nothing more. After Feyre gains power from each High Lord and becomes a symbol of freedom and peace (something similar), Rhys begins to see her as a weapon- a means to make his court the most powerful of them all (he lies to her that he needs her to win the war and save Prythian). But will he stay true to his ambitions when he finds himself falling in love with her? 😏 (They both aren’t aware of the mating bond)

Idk, this is just a fun concept. Let me know what you think.

I’m so over the moon with how this commissioned turned out! @kt-reads-things & I wanted to capture the warmth & peacefulness that Elain could bring Lucien!
