I just read your Persephone and Hades poem and it is fantastic. I'm still stunned so I can't even write a coherent message. I guess I'm just saying thank you for allowing humans to read something so beautiful and haunting.

I hope you don’t mind that I’m posting this publicly, but I couldn’t think of any other way to address how incredibly touched and honored I am that so many people read and liked my poem. I had never even written poetry before that post, and certainly never shared my writing on tumblr, so I did not expect anyone to actually bother reading it. I signed out of tumblr the moment I posted it, and when I came back to hundreds of notes and your incredibly kind words I was so overwhelmed and just /amazed/ by the response, and I just want to thank you for being so wonderfully kind and for inspiring me to share my writing more often, as well as dedicating some of my efforts towards poetry. Just taking the time out of your day to say such incredible things meant so much to me that I don’t know how to properly thank you. You’re a beautiful human being, and I am so glad that you enjoyed my writing

they say he stole her, as if Persephone were only something to be coveted and not a goddess in her own right, as if she were not as feared in their realm as he. they say that he corrupted her, that Hades’s flower wilted under the stench of his death but they forget that Spring is rebirth, that if anyone could be touched by the underworld and flourish, that it would be her. they say that he tricked her, that she did not want to stay. but they forget how the winter drags on, how each year it creeps in sooner, leaving bones aching for a hint of her warmth, and it is not because he will not let her leave it is because she does not want to go.

From atop a shadowed throne, Hades watches the seasons pass. He grieves as the first buds of spring push their way up through the frozen earth. He thinks how cruel it is, that the days should be so much longer in the months they must be apart. He wonders if it was Zeus who ordered Apollo to drive his chariot more slowly across the sky in summer, as punishment for the crime in which he too played a part. Surely, taking her from him for half the year must be punishment enough? But even through these endless days he cannot summon an ounce of remorse. He could steal her a hundred, a thousand more times, and still it would be a drop in the ocean compared to how completely she has stolen him. Persephone. The very name holds him prisoner as he wishes away the seconds. From atop a shadowed throne, Hades watches as the first leaves wither and fall from their branches and he rejoices. She will be his again soon.

WHEN PERSEPHONE LEFT II. Goodbye, my Flower PERSEPHONE LEFT the underworld, an ache in his chest, an empty space in the bed next to him. She left with shaking hands and bitter words on her tongue. She left him with a feeling that the God of the Underworld should never feel because he apparently didn’t have a heart. But he did because it beat her name. *** He left her but it was his fault. Couldn’t bare to watch his flower wilt anymore. Told her to, “get out, love.” said, “you’re free now.” cried, “return back to the light. to your mother. to the world with a sky.” Took her crown away and she yelled, “you’ll regret this.” *** SO WHEN PERSEPHONE LEFT, it wasn’t that all hell broke loose, literally. It wasn’t Hades causing widespread ruin or taking his anger out on every god and mortal. No, when she left, it was quiet. He ruled the underworld from his throne, trying to ignore the empty one beside him. He went to sleep, dreaming of his face buried in the crook of her neck and how she smelled of honey. He continued on with his days, an ache in his chest at the thought of her smile.
