I’ve seen the take a couple of times recently calling Alexei Shostakov (MCU) a bad man bc he “sold his daughters” to the Red Room and it always confuses me - like he’s not a good person, and letting the Red Room take them was a very bad thing, but they weren’t his biological children and he didn’t sell them?

We know for a fact that Natasha had already been trained in the Red Room for a while before the Ohio mission (hence why she was able to disarm a soldier so easily at age 10) - and while we don’t know how Yelena spent the first three years of her life, it’s safe to assume it was probably also in the Red Room (she just doesn’t remember that bc she wasn’t old enough to form long term memories of it yet)

They were assigned by the Red Room to play Melina and Alexei’s fake children for the three-year long mission - so Alexei likely considered it more along the lines of giving them back than anything else

Again, I’m not saying he’s a good man by any means, but he did not sell his daughters - as far as he was concerned (even if he loved those kids like his own, which I believe he did) they both already “belonged” to the Red Room

To be honest, I have never thought of it this way and it helps me understand him as a character better. It’s still a horrible thing to have done, but I can understand his thought process at the time.

I just wish Marvel showed him having the crippling guilt he would have after reuniting with his family and treating Yelena as his daughter again during thunderbolts. Him thinking back to giving his daughters (because now in his mind they are really and truly his daughters, blood or not) to the red room to be made into child soldiers and traumatized and remembering how he didn’t hesitate and how he had no guilt because he was just giving the red room back it’s property. Thinking of how Yelena now hates herself to her core because of what she’s done because he gave her back to that place.

And Alexei cries.

I am very upset that they made Gregory Eddie in Abbot Elementary suddenly be ok with eating all kinds of food in one episode after trying new food for the first time. Excuse me, that guy was my comfort most likely arfid character. He was the only character I related to in my food weirdness issues. He liked like five foods and hated all other foods for GOOD REASONS. It was heavily implied that he's tried other fold and just had flavor and texture sensitivities. Maybe I'm way too worked up about this, but I spent many seasons relating to this character because he's the only character that represented that for me that I've seen and it was played out to be him just overreacting.

Which is completely unrealistic.

kinda funny that steve rogers, a chronically ill son of first gen immigrants, was raised by a single mom in brooklyn into an anti fascist progressive man who stood up everyday against oppressors. and that cap 2 was about an AI surveillance state & how easily the government could be corrupted/compromised. and that cap 3 was about accords that would strip enhanced individuals of their autonomy and turn them into pawns/breathing weapons & a tortured POW who was villainized. and how in infinity war steve rogers had become a world wide fugitive doing what he thought was right even if it wasn’t legal.

and then endgame said well on that note, we’re sending him back in time to 1950s (the decade epitomes w trad values and when there was still segregation) and he wouldn’t do anything about social issues or hydra or his best friend being brainwashed bc he deserved to rest <3
