I've never liked my health class
Why would I? My teachers are opinionated, the lessons are 90% videos I can't watch because I'm not too good with sounds sometimes, and there are no captions or transcripts even though we have several hard of hearing kids attending this online class, and the work is so badly formatted that we're bound to get things wrong even if the question was actually covered in our lessons. The class is designed for one kind of person, the kind who schools are always designed for. Non-disabled, with opinions that match those of the region's older adults.
But recently, we had an assignment. We were talking about good and bad relationships and abuse, and we had an assignment to write about an abusive relationship we had (or toxic, or just negative-in-general) and talk about what caused it and what we should do to heal our relationship. I think the teacher thought we'd all chose a petty squabble with a sibling or a gossiping frenemy, maybe a overbearing boyfriend with some of the girls. Here's the thing, though: Why the hell would I try to fix the toxic relationship with my family, or attempt to reconnect with the abusive best friend from my childhood, or reach out to anyone who had intentionally hurt me and proven beyond doubt that they are not trustworthy?
Why should I forgive someone? What kind of society do we live in where it makes you a bad person if you don't forgive and forget every damn time someone hurts you? If someone has done the same shit to you, over and over, and you've realized that they are toxic and bad for you, why the actual fuck would you try to mend your relationship?
Forgive, but don't forget. You don't have to leave yourself vulnerable to someone's bullshit just to be a good person. You don't owe it to anyone to be friends with someone who spreads rumours about you or to stay close to a family member who puts you down constantly.
Go ahead and be petty. Hold a grudge. Don't just let people take advantage of your forgiveness like that.
The health class doesn't mean it like that, obviously. No sane person would ask you, "Now, Rebecca, how are you going to go crawling back to your abusive relationship?" They want you to mend the broken relationships that aren't harmful. They want you to find better resolution to conflict. They just can't phrase things right for shit.

It stuns me when people don't worry about a bad grade, when they assume they can bring it up and don't care if they get a B or a low A. It stuns me that other people don't worry themselves sick over every grade yet fall into depressive episodes where it doesn't matter enough to be done, it astounds me, the idea that something is wrong with me, that this hellish cycle of failure and excelling and hysteria and emptiness and madness isn't normal. It's all I know.
Yes, it's unhealthy, but it's all I have.
I drew tiny t*tties on my art project
We had to draw a map of something, someplace, for my art class. My art partner and I decided to do the worst of the internet, because we're weird and sleep deprived, and I was REALLY sleep deprived and kind of hysterical and so I made half the map Tumblr and in the corner were some really... rounded mountains, which made up Censorship Circle.
I, being an idiot and the worst student in that class, ask if I can put n*pples on the mountains. She says fine, as long as it's not obvious. (she was detailing the coastlines and I don't think she was listening) Obviously, I can't make them not obvious, but I tried. She looks over, screams, because I have essentially covered the corner of our project with tiny titties. We tried fixing it by making smiley faces on some, but in the end we were forced to block out the n*pples with a nearby marker. If you squint, you can still see them.
That is how, on the last day of the semester, I did something both beautiful and horribly stupid. Additionally, my art teacher is concerned about us.
A pregnant woman has had her baby forcibly removed by caesarean section by social workers.
Essex social services obtained a High Court order against the woman that allowed her to be forcibly sedated and her child to be taken from her womb. The council said it was acting in the best interests of the woman, an Italian who was in Britain on a work trip, because she had suffered a mental breakdown.
If you are not absolutely terrified and outraged by this you are wrong. The precedent this sets put every person on earth in danger.

Over a fucking panic attack. Iâm fucking serious, all of this over a single panic attack. They took her baby in the most horrific way possible because she had a fucking panic attack.

I bolded the above. I wanted there to be no one to think that she was being irresponsible for not haven taken her meds regularly. She did it for good reason, for the health of her own baby. And she got punished for it.

So she did what was best for her kid, has ONE SINGLE PANIC ATTACK WHICH IS A THING THAT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE WHETHER THEY HAVE A MENTAL ILLNESS OR NOT and decide that they can literally violate her body in a horrific manner and take her kid away. But sheâs the dangerous one.
Terribly sad. I hope this gets worked out in her benefit.
I canât even imagine how terrifyingly awful that situation had to have been. Forcing a woman, against her will, to undergo sedation and then waking up in pain, without the fetus youâve been carrying for 9 months? Thatâs beyond the pale. How much do the rights of an unborn fetus circumvent the rights of a full-grown adult? How much do we have to other the mentally ill, treating them (us) as less than human? She was literally treated like a breeding animal, with no cause of concern for her safety, mental health or well-being. Fuck. Fuck.
The British government wonât even hand the baby over to the Italian government. Theyâre keeping it in a British foster home. THIS WOMANâS BABY MIGHT NOT EVEN GROW UP SPEAKING HER LANGUAGE IF SHE DOESNâT GET IT BACK.
The entire fucking world should be enraged over this case. What gives them the right???
One thing I love about my English teacher...
If you have a question but are too awkward/shy to ask it in front of the whole class, or, like me, too scared of human interaction to walk up and ask the teacher in person, she's completely okay with you emailing her a question, she even makes sure to check her email often during class.
