Round Trip || Hilbert & N
N burst into relief, laughing all the while. Having spent a lifetime alone, it was reassuring to know that he was in good hands now. Inside this tiny compartment of theirs, never before had he felt so secure. And to see Hilbert so flattered only amused him some more. Their car had stopped at the peak. Now they were looking down at the sparkling fluorescent lights; Hilbert’s face seemed to glow just as brightly.
N had a bad habit of using complex vocabulary that was at times beyond the young trainer. Although he wasn’t nearly as eloquent with his diction, N was also pleasantly surprised by his friend’s gratitude. He would have never calculated it, never anticipated it in the slightest. Flustered, N cleared his throat to hide his embarrassment.
"I’m surprised, yet glad, that you regard me so highly. I would have never thought it possible. I’m glad that we’re all taking steps, even if small, towards the betterment of pokemon and humans alike. Yes. One cannot live without the other. Of course, you were the one who taught me that. We bring out the best in each other, pokemon and humans."
He closed his eyes and allowed the sweet atmosphere to soothe him. The ferris wheel was his favorite place to be. Watching the neon flashes from above, being within arms reach of the sky, and just the simplicity of being up so high. Now he could enjoy this moment again with the trainer that revolutionized his life.
Regardless, N did not feel ready to return. He came back to thank Hilbert. Yet he still did not deserve to see his human friends once more. “Hey, Hilbert? Might I ask that you hold off the reunion? I don’t think I’m ready to go back yet… There’s still a lot left I need to do. I still need to atone for Team Plasma’s crimes….”
Yawning the young teenage boy stretched a bit. The ride was so calming and peaceful, to think it would soon end was a depressing thought. N hadn't changed much since he'd last seen him, appearance wise. Though something seemed off about him, deciding to shake the thought off he looked over at the green haired male.
"Alright no worries, you do have a busy schedule. I understand, the team and I'll be waiting for you. So don't let us hanging for too long!"
"N, after this I hope we do stay in contact. I don't want to leave Nimbasa with a false hope that we will see each other again. So for the time being--" Hilbert stood up suddenly and took off his hat and swiped N's off his head.
"You can take my hat and I'll take yours. Deal?" Hilbert grinned before putting on the hat and putting Hilbert's hat on N's head.
As soon as the trading of hats had been done, the doors swung open indicating the ride had ended. Time for the getaway.
"Well bye, N! Sorry again, I promise to return the hat next time we meet!" Hilbert yelled scurrying off.
If anything the hat was important to Hilbert, it was a memento he had received from his late father. The hat held a deep meaning to Hilbert, but at the moment seeing N again seemed to be more important...
